A lot of us seem to be Essex/London based so I wondering if any of you have any stories or experiences regarding Hangman's Hill in High Beech, Epping Forest.
I know Epping Forest is a creepy place at the best of times but a few years ago me and a friend paid a visit to Hangman's Hill to see what it was all about.
For those who don't know the story of the hill I'll briefly explain. Hangman's Hill is a small hill in part of Epping Forest in Essex.
Legend has it that hangings took place there many, many years ago and the hill is known generally as very spooky place indeed.
Cars are said to roll UP the hill even when the engine is switched off.
Many people have repoted seeing 'a man' standing at the top of the hill doing a "pulling motion" and others have seen him running around the area and heard laughing "ringing through the forest".
How many of these reports we can believe as fact is a matter of personal opinion.
Anyway, when I went there the car did indeed roll up the hill. I wasn't satisfied with this I made my friend get out of the car while we walked along beside it, he just had his hand in the open window to steer the thing.
We did this a few times and I can say that it definately DID roll up the hill. It isn't a very steep hill I admit but it is a hill nonetheless.
Some say it's all an optical illusion and in fact the 'hill' goes down instead of up. I don't agree with that. When you actually get out of your car and walk along beside it you know you are definately walking UP a hill and not down it. |

No one has responded to this but it is interesting.
Ray I might go try it when I am down that way.
There are other places that this happens and have been found to be optical illusions.
Sorry can't remember the names _________________ Please visit our main site |

Yes I think a lot of these sort of things are explained away as optical illusions but I just don't buy it.
My arse full of lard knows when it's walking up a hill - even a slight one - I will not accept it's not a hill. |

| Hi Raymond... I've been to High Beech... I did find that it was a bit spooky but the day I went, there was quite a few people there. I really do want to go again... and hopefully include Hangman's Hill in that trip too. |

| That's the problem Wack, it's become something of a well known odd-spot. Once when I went there was an orderly queue of cars waiting to have a turn of Hangman's Hill. |

Having a mother than teaches about the history of Epping Forest and being dragged there many times as a child I am well up on the story of Hangmans Hill. Growing up in Chigwell it was a popular spot for driving to on dates or with friends to scare each other, my sister used to go there with older boyfriends and would always talk about it.
I didnt go there till I was in my 20's and after many years of hearing about it I was eager to try it out with the boyfriend I was with. When we got there I was very disapointed and, yes the car rolled a bit but I defo dont think there is anything paranormal about it, it is an optical illusion.
Me and my other half went there a few months ago , we were on the hunt for UFO's in High Beech . There was a massive queue of teenagers in their car waiting to get on the hill and it has now become a joke!!
By the way, we didnt find any UFO's which was disapointing but what was more disapointing was that the doggers we parked up along side didnt even try and approach us to join them, maybe it was the video camera we had with us??? :) _________________ The only thing a woman has left to hold on to is being a bitch! |

Well I've given my opinion on Hangman's Hill. The car I was in rolled up the hill a good 15-20 feet in all, and it was definately UPhill because I made all the passengers get out of the car and we walked along beside it as it rolled.
I agree with Pumkin about the queues of kids waiting to have a go. It's a shame really, it's become something of a fair-ground ride lately.
'Doggers' - people who enjoy having sex in public places and/or with complete strangers.
This has become a bit of a 'thing' over the past few years and the people who take part think they're being all hip and edgy.
Once again though I feel I must burst their bubble. Straight people think they have recently discovered the joys of outdoor/anonymous sex only recently, but we homosexualist people have been doing it since forever.
Once again it's another case of beige people trying to copy rainbow people - and failing miserably. |

Dogging comes from people taking their dogs out for a walk but actually getting up to other business.
Goodness knows what happens to the dog while all this is going on. |

We have a place like that in Romania too where cars are supposedly going up the hill and I think they explained it in connection to magnetism. I have never been there but now that I know about the place in Epping Forrest I might give it a try. Thanks for the idea!:) _________________ Magic Is. That’s all, it just is.
