It's a bit early to talk about Christmas but already Mrs H is busily buying cards for family and friends which I dutifuly read all of the words and make all or the right approving noises.

13 cards today and 22 quid spent. Then let's not forget that we have to pay postage.  Now we need probably a hundred cards so do the sums.  Am I getting tight because it  seems a bit much to me

Now i know things cost money but why the heck are cards so very expensive.

We could have bought a couple of novels for the same money.

Yes, it's ridiculous - I have this same problem every year.  I try to get a box of cheapos, which used to be really good value for money, but now they're just yeugh with naff designs that I wouldn't send to anybody!  And not that cheap any more, either.  We used to be able to get decent cards years ago - why are they such rubbish now?

And when you convert the postage back (and before anyone says anything, yes, I know it's a mistake to remember pre-decimal currency) but heck - nearly EIGHT SHILLINGS to post one ruddy card!!!

Yes, I think it's safe to say Scrooge is alive and kicking in this money-conscious household!

Not to mention the price of Yule cards...

Perhaps the Pagans should join the Christians and get the proifiteering news agents.

I always think that Yule cards are so much better designed than Christmas Cards that have a fat bloke dressed in red on the front or sleighs or snow covered houses.

Now Yule cards invariably have a really sexy looking half naked Godess on the front and look great in my living room.

Yup it's Yule cards for me any day of the year.

It's the profiteering Pagans that worry me!!
£9.99 for 10 Yule cards, in two designs.
Little cards at that, no glitter or sparkle- nothing!
They are probably organic or some other such nonsense...
A half naked Goddess in your living room: now that's magick!!

You don't get much in Amsterdam for 9.99,but having said that her granny was quite reasonable.

9.99 and get one free.

Bargain.

I hate xmas cards.
But not as much as I hate fireworks.
By all means have organised events but please ban them from public sale.

You're cheap, Mr D  Big Grin . I spent 20 £ just for 4 cards:))))).Ridiculous price indeed. And bought them 2 weeks ago. lol. Yesterday i bought some cute X-mas decorations too for here although I go home at that time and stay there 3 weeks till after New Year. But I am like a child in that respect and I llove it. But Christmas preparations in October seems a bit early. Oh well, one can never have enough if it.

I agree with you on having fireworks at  events only Kas.
The displays are free. you drop a few coins in a charity bucket if you want too.

Mike and me take our children to a display every year to Barry Island. we get fish & chips for all of us and stand on the beach to watch the display light up the sea in an array of colours. wonderful it is too.

I love letting off fireworks. I hate organised events usually because they're full of hooded scroats.

I don't know why people winge about bonfire night. It's great fun!

They moan and moan because their precious little pets gets scared. Too bad! It's only once a year for goodness sake.

Damn Shirley is fast asleep and not bothered one bit.

For a female cat she certainly has a decent set of balls. But then again, a mamby-pamby pet wouldn't last 5 minutes with me.

.

That's true, my dog was scared like crazy (hiding under the bed or beind sofa)the first Christmas she spent in my house because of all the crwackers and fireworks outside. The following year she didn't give a damn. Same when I lived in Holland and planes were flying above the house, she'd run home if i was out with her. After a couple of months she didn't care anymore.
