I received a letter in the mail yesterday informing me that my children were to be given student numbers that will be with them until they are 25... apparently this is to ensure their marks and academic records will never be amiss..

hmmm  its like our medicare numbers we all have already I'm not scared by it but I don't' think it is necessary in any way and of course there was no hooharr about it just the letter informing us .. I wonder if I'll hear an up cry in the news from parents not wanting this.. I for one would opt out if possible and the fact it isn't is what makes these thing wrong

Hang on, I don't get it.

What exactly do you want to opt out of? Your children being given a reference number so the authorities don't lose their school work?

i have a feeling this is the way in for the Australian number that the government has been trying to get in for years but it keeps being\knocked back on a matter of privacy...  this makes it happen regardless.. and they hid under the fact that they start with the children...

Raymond nothing here is done on a state or national level as far as education is concerned..  so why the need for this number.. it makes no sense  there is nothing to be lost

Oh EG, once you set a foot down on the road to conspiracy it's nothing but a downward slippery slope my friend.

It's a number. A number to make sure school work doesn't go missing. How many people will have the same name in Australia? Tens of thousands probably, but each person will only have one number unique to them.

Where's the big bad wolf in this?

What's the big deal?

so bassically it's like a national insurance number, sounds reasonable, wish we had this system and all my school work would of actually been able to help me prove some of my universal theories

like I said I'm not actually worried about it we do nothing wrong so means nothing to me .. but I do find it interesting that we have been fighting against the Australian number for years and it has been stopped .. but this is really no different its just slipped in....

Honestly EG I really can't see what the problem with this is.

We've got different numbers for everything in the UK, maybe Australia's population is growing and they need to start issuing numbers to stop things like important documents going missing.

Worry more about the mothership coming on christmas day. Now THAT gives me the willies!!!

*rolling on floor laughing *

yeah I know what you mean....   the post is probably lost on you guys .... there has been a big outrage at bringing numbers in for about a decade and every time the government attempts it is is stopped.. I'm just surprised this one isn't stopped... the number is for birth to 25- hardly schooling years lol

It is about government wanting their way and the populace saying no.

You are not a number.

Do they have ID cards in Auz?

I am a free man!

While I really don't see the problem with this one, apart from sentimental reason of avoiding impersonal treatment, it still doesn't actually work.

Hospital numbers have been in play for a long time and last week my hospital has lost all my notes.

I don't mind these things if they actually worked.
