PUPILS WHO WON'T STAND GET BANNED
A Headmaster has infuriated parents by sending home pupils who refuse to stand up for him when he enters a classroom.
Kevin Harrison, 55, says youngsters getting on their feet when he walks into a room is all part of 'raising pride and teaching respect'.
But Mr. Harrison who introduced the rule at Macclesfield High School, Cheshire, when he took over earlier this month, has been accused of being 'ridiculous' and 'heavy handed'.
The father of one suspended 15 year old boy who refused to stand said Mr. Harrison should realise that respect "had to be earned, not forced".
Tim Walton, 40, said his son Daniel was "entirely justified" in remaining seated when Mr. Harrison entered the room.
"I teach my children the laws of society" Said Mr. Walton "I also teach them to respect people who have earned their respect. The Headmaster hasn't been there long enough to earn my son's respect so why should he stand up for him?"
Mr. Harrison, a teacher for 34 years said: "We want to teach pupils to take a pride in their work, their school and most importantly in themselves".
"We cannot have a situation where pupils refuse to do what a member of staff is asking them to do".
All elders should be shown respect, no matter what their station in life.
A headmaster is just that the HEAD Teacher, top dog, captain of that school.
No way should he have to prove himself to spotty little oiks who have been brought up by parents who have no conception of manners and / or respect for others.
Respect only has to be earned amongst your peers.
Authority always demands and should get respect!!
Well I'm shocked. I thought you will all take more of a liberal view on this one.
I'm usually the more conservative voice when it comes to things like this but I have to say, I think this headmaster is being a bit of a prat.
It won't take these kids long to realise that is they want a few days off school all they have to do is remain seated, and who does this bloke think he is anyway? Royalty?
I agree of course that elders should command instant respect, especially from children. And there are two things that kids of today need a lot more of it's discipline and respect.
I take my hat off to him for trying at least, even if he is going about it all in a bit of a cack-handed way.
I had to stand when i was in school, a mere 7 years ago, even for my bat-like head of year, if we didn't detention for 2 weeks, you only got let off if you couldn't stand without a Wheelchair or Crutches, then it was all the "Sir and Madame" bussiness, which i still do, out of respect and habit, my god, i even pull chairs out for my other halves (when i have one) when we go out to dinner, i must be the politest and respectful 18 year old in Essex _________________ I give you, the Waffle King
there is a good way of earning discipline when you first go into a school or class as a teacher you come down hard at the beginning.. that way the students know that you are serious and not a push over... this man is doing that to the extreme but he is only asking that they stand not that they bow to him - big different..
I'm not for it BUT there is certainly no harm in this rule and I say if it has been made and is know then it needs to be upheld

because it is too late to try to instill some kind of weird victorian hierarchy in school when outside they can almost get away with murder.......
there are kids out mugging,steamimg having postcode wars,taking drugs and giving each other stds and some twat thinks they should stand up for him?
respect should be earned....not commanded.......
perhaps if this tit did something to understand the lives of his pupils then he might get some respect?
my mates son just left a stuffy school in westcliff..........
a year or two back some boy was being bullied.........
so the kids uncle and some of his mates drove into the school.got hold of the bully and gave him a pasting.............then drove off again!
natural justice some might say-but with parents ,elders like this why do u think the kids are feral?
I started school way back in 1962. and Left in 1973.
In all my 11 years in the school system, I understood that if I stepped out of line, with bad behaviour and no respect, then I would be physically punished.
But worse than that..... The one abiding fear that kept me on the straight and narrow, was the fact that if my parents were to find out I had misbehaved or been disrespectful to any one, The retribution would be swift and hard.
My father would often reprimand me at home because as a child I liked to push the boundaries.
I can honestly say He never harmed me, but he often wounded my pride ...LOL This alone taught me to respect others, and I am grateful to my father for helping me to be an adult who can differentiate the difference between right and wrong.
It may be missdirected at times but I like the idea that people learn that they are not always the most important thing in the whole of creation. _________________ Please visit our main site
well in Australia kids still sing the national anthem... every school does as we all stand when it is sang .. it is also sang at sporting events large and small
and in many schools children stand when a teacher enters the room and often this is accompanied with .. Good morning/afternoon Ms Jones (or whoever) ..... in chorus
is this not done in the UK any more ???
and Sheel... i finished school in the late 80's where corporal punishment was still dished out accompanied with a letter home to your parents and some demerit point ... and i am sure that it is still ok in private schools here for this punishment to this very day _________________ as a babe drinks from its mothers breast so too does man milk mother earth
one school here put a stop to its Christmas celebrations and there was a public out cry .. it was back within in two days they were forced to celebrate hahaha got to love Australians they are very outspoken
