Let me sum up how I feel on light and dark.

My teacher said that he is a vegetarian non smoker non drinker by choice and had been for years.

I asked him why did he choose to be those things.

He said that it meant that he did not even have to think about drinking smoking or eating the flesh of a dead animal.

All very commendable.

I explained to him that I drank smoked and ate dead animals and that was by choice so I too had no problems struggling to make a decision about my lifestyle.

He was not amused.

A sense of humour! SO it can all be summed up by choice.

Ok, so back to the original question, what do you choose your shadow to be?

(Given that you make your own reality etc etc)

Vegetarianism, like Environmentalism, is another way to help make people feel better than other people.

A bit like religion.

"I don't eat meat*, I don't smoke*, I don't drink*, I recycle my waste*, I love God* so therefor I'm better than you!"

um my shadow is something I try to embrace.. the parts of me that stand up for me its something I have had to let grow  and be heard a whole lot more.. there was a time when I was scared of what you may term your shadow self.. but then I realised if I allow it to speak and be heard then why fear it  afteral its all a part of me

Many people in the so-called 'New-Age' movement make the mistake of shunning their shadow because it's been labelled as 'evil'.
Your darker side is no more 'evil' than your lighter side.
Many new-agers bring with them feelings of guilt and sin from their Jewish/Christian/Muslim upbringing and transfer those feelings onto a pagan spiritual framework.

Evil comes from the person. Your shadow in itself isn't evil, it's how you relate to it and interpret it's teachings that can make it manifest as evil.

Take lust for example. Many would say lust belongs in the shadow, many would say lust is an evil thing.
Those who are out of balance and not in touch with their darkerself may very well interpret their lust as something bad and could use it in a very negative way as in rape, for example.
Those who embrace their darkerside will acknowledge their lust and own it and use it in a positive way to better their lovemaking and have a more fulfilling sex life.

Embrace your darkerself and own it. As I've said before, all life begins in the dark.
