There's one very important name that hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread and is the one person believed to be the person behind Duncan's conviction.
Yes,but not the Ian Fleming one! Never did like James Bond..lol _________________ Remember words spoken complaining may blight every effort and plan,

I may have missed it so bear with me but does anyone know how much Helen Ducan charged for a sitting at her circles? _________________ Please visit our main site
The small amount of cash she made from her sittings, mostly token donations from friends and neighbours existing in a similar poverty to herself , would often discreetly go to their local doctor to pay for those patients who were destitute. This was in the time before Britain's national health service concept of free medicine for all had been introduced. _________________ Remember words spoken complaining may blight every effort and plan,

The vast majority of the people present at the seances at Oxford wanted to believe what was happening. They went away thinking they had seen the most amazing psychic powers and paranormal phenomenon.
At the start of the night the illusionist asked how many people believed in spirit and 28 out of 30 people put their hands up.
If you go to these events in such a blinkered way, if you whole heartedly believe everything that happens even before you get there is real then you are never going to see the glaringly obvious reasons and explanations for what you are experiencing.
I'm not saying there was no paranormal activity at the Oxford seance or at Duncans. But if the people at Duncans seances were in the same mind set as those at Oxfords then they wouldn't be looking for explanations. They wouldn't question what they were seeing.
It's out of their comprehension that any strange occurances aren't down to ghosts.
I think a lot of people who go to spiritualist churches are in the same mindset.
Even if you go on the off chance I think you're hoping there'll be activity ! _________________

No person who goes to a Spritualist Church would use the word activity in connection with a service.
People do go with expectation and that of course is not really a way to find out any kind of truth.
I have never seen a medium whom I would consider a trickster. I have seen plenty that I would consider absolutely useless and deluded, but that is another matter.
I thought that kas's trip to Oxford was to see someone who could perforn the same act as a medium does but from the write up it is to me nothing like that at all. It is just a magic act, and a very ordinary one at that. _________________ Please visit our main site
Just for the record; I have been a spiritualist since I could walk, and I certainly don't take everything in a circle, seance, church meeting as 'gospel' truth. I know many spiritualists who hear a noise and say, oooh it must be spirit. I rule out all the logical first, then if the 'happening' cannot be explained,I ask for a repeat performance. Most times I get something happen that is so unbelievable; then, I may,,and I repeat ,may- put the ocurrence down to unseen forces.
