Worship

Mankind has always worshipped something.  Why?

Witches to Bishops to Mullahs all worship.

But what are they worshipping and why do they feel the need.

I do not believe in a God or any God.

I will however use God forms.

Contradictory I know but I am human and I obviously have the same needs as most of the human race.

Why?

A hundred years, a thousand years, a million billion years are all insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Bit crap that, so we need to invent a higher purpose.

David it's to do with our being here !
Humans are modest creatures and we must have been put here on Earth for a reason.
That's why man worships a supreme being to feel that we have a purpose other than reproduction, otherwise the planet would be nothing more than a gigantic zoo.
I don't agree with the worshipping c**p, but there must be a reason for us, which is why I study different religions (as a pass time) to see where they join up in belief of our reason for existence.

I just need to correct a little mistake in Mr. Hobbs' original post. Witches don't 'worship' the Gods we merely give honour.
The God and the Goddess of Witches/Pagans don't require begging or endless thanks on bended knee.
The relationship we have with our gods is very much a two way street.
It's more of a friendship than a master/slave arrangement.

There's a ritual of thanks and the closing line is; "Without the gods we would have and be nothing. Without us the gods would have and be nothing".

Pagans are well aware that god is created by man, not the other way around.

Seems to me that most religions describe stuff that is not physical in a way that the rest of us can understand it.
Folks then worship what they don't understand because it is a mystery, and so holds an answer to our existence.

Also, some seek power over others, and so knowing something that others don't, or having a way to be "better" than them gives the others a reson to fear them.

Its a "lack of responsibility for our own selves" thing, and also a  pandering to our fears thing.

I can't say I go along with the thick Neandertal thing.

Such a well thought out  turn of phrase.

So I take it that worship isn't seen as 'cool' by most of you. It's funny how if you disagree with a cool idea you're shouted down but if you disagree with an un-cool idea you're praised.

Raymond possibly there is a difference between worship and devotion.

Worship give all to another.  Devotion gives love and respect.

I think that perhaps witches do the latter.

What does it matter?

What does it have to do with anybody excapt the worshipper?

I was fortunate enough to attend a Voodoo ritual last year. I tell you what, for the first time in ages I was close to tears to the energy and life they give to their gods.

Are they neanderthal wankers as well?
