What If Christianity Had Never Caught On?

"Christianity takes its name from the Greek word ?Christ?, meaning Anointed One, whom Christians believe was Jesus, the son of God. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, near Jerusalem and grew up as a Jewish boy. At about the age of 30 he began three years of travelling and teaching. He taught a new way of drawing upon the Jewish tradition. He called this way the Kingdom of God. He gathered followers and aroused the opposition of the Roman authorities who suspected him of planning a rebellion and had him executed.

After his crucifixion Jesus appeared to his disciples and told them to go out into the world and preach that we are all loved by God and are called to love those around us in response. By around 60 AD Christianity had spread west and north to many parts of the Roman Empire. In 300 AD Armenia became the first officially Christian country. At the same time Christianity also spread east through the Persian Empire as far as China. Since the 16th century European missionaries established Christianity in every continent."

Now, I'd like this to be a sensible disscusion if you will, but what if Christianity had never happened?
What would the world be like today if Christianity had never caught on?
Would some form of Paganism have become the dominate religion of the world or would Judaism have taken the place of Christianity?

Your thoughts please...
Bravo

Christianity has been, and still is, the single greatest cause of hell on Earth.  It is no more than a tool of the powerful to get people to fulfil the ruler's desires.

Many millions have died because of it, many millions more will yet die.

A common misconception is that Islamists oppose Christianity, which is far fromt he truth as they too are Christian.  They just believe that other prophets followed Christ to point out our ways had gone wrong and that the new way was now the rule.  Mohammed being the most famous of these other prophets.

What would be in it's place?  Some other form of control, certainly not freedom to follow one's own desires.

New religions are forming to this very day so it is difficult to make a guess as to which would prevail in the long run and be the main doctrine of the masses.

Religion has and always will evolve and usually with a great deal of blood being spilt.

I doubt that what we class a paganism would ever be the main religion as it encourages self awareness, and individuality which is something that would never be encouraged by those who rule things on our behalf,

remember the inquisition?

Was it that witches were evil or the fact that witches were seen to have a little power that could not be controlled by the church and therefore had to be eradicated because nothing but the state must have anything resembling power and control, especially over their own affairs?.

As Bravo pointed out.  What ever religion prevails in contemporary society it is for one purpose only.

Control.

That would include paganism if it ever came to the fore because it is not the religion but the indoctrination and manipulation of your mind that forms the world we live in.  Or at least, the world that you think you live in.
Bravo

Even the modern extremist islamic religion is running out of people prepared to kill themselves as suicide bombers, they are now having to make their life such a living hell that a suicide mission is a welcome release for them.

One form of control becomes another.
