trustwhy do we trust certain people?
is it a cultural thing? a hangover from the 19th century?
why do we doff our caps to others?
in the first world war the proles were told it would be over by christmas......
when we go to visit a doctor why do we just accept what they say?
harold shipman seeemed like a nice bloke.
or why do people trust politicians ?

it an authority thing.. nothing to do with trust.. all to do with just believe others in authority....
Not everyone trusts blindly Billy

hi e/g...........of course not everyone trusts..........
but it seems that the vast majority are lemmings..........
people in their millions trusted lenin,mao,hitler.........
nearly half of the u.s voted for george bush jr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so why dont we question others MOTIVES (one for the occultists there) before complying?

I think that people dont 'put a lot of thought into things=generally....
they also don't take responsibility ... thus they don't look into things because they don't see it as something that will effect them

it does tend to be the older generation that seem to blindly believe what people in authority say! my mother is a perfect example .... for years she has been ill with one thing or another... the doctor in the end saying to her ...well it's just your age!!?!! it was only when i interved (i'm a nurse, and quite used to drs blag) that things started to get done... she has now been properly diagnosed and sadly has missed the boat for any treatment.
i have taught my girls to think for themselves and question everything!

Some people just like to find something to moan about.
Your comments Billy really are sweeping generalisations. It's all about the individual.
Take my current GP as an example, he's useless. I wouldn't trust him to look after my goldfish, the GP I had before him was a miricle worker. I literally did trust him with my life.
Same goes for politicians and all people in authority. I don't accept that all of them are dodgy (many are, I agree) but not all.
And you have to ask yourself, if you were in their position would you really be any different?

I think it's just a case of it being easier to accept what an authority figure says than go to the trouble of questioning them.
I am thinking that people assume that someone in authority has got themselves there and so must be up to the job?
Perhaps the majority of members on here don't think that way because we all have a slightly different way of viewing things. We have open, questioning minds and are searching for answers and explanations, that's why we're here. Most people are happy to plod along in their bubble.

I look at the world of order and trust in a strange light, question what you don't know, correct what you do know, and if you've got no idea pay someone who gives a toss to care about it for you, cos if you don't care, it don't matter.
God i love being a strange human being

Interesting question Billy.
Why do we trust some people as if it where their god given right to be trusted.
Perhaps it starts at home by trusting our parents and then at school by trusting our teachers and then we trust those history books that we learn form so I do see what you mean, or at least I think I do.
Accepting what we are taught is so automatic that most of the time we do not question it.
In America for instance 25% of the population believe that Dinosaurs where created 6000 years ago and some even believe that people rode about on them.
So how much do we think we know because we automatically trust the source which is in fact wrong?

Although i'm only speaking about blind trust, maybe its just too much effort for some people to think for themselves thus they blindly trust people in authority. Could also be the comfort factor.
For lack of a better term, "normal trust" is usually earned, just think about work colleagues, there are some that have proven themselves time and time again to be trustworthy and reliable while others are just lazy useless twats which you wouldn't trust with a pencil never mind your life. lol

Well I don't agree with the idea that people are to lazy to think for themselves, I think that they just do not realise that there is an alternative.

dave- from a shamanic point of view we all have our own power.
or in crowleys terms we are all 'stars' with our own course to follow.......
yet many are prepared to just accept someones word-
and obey blindly.......
why do we want to believe?
is it in our nature or are we coersed by 'society' into believing things?
ie (rather simply) someone with a suit on is a trustworthy fellow?
as 4 the yanks there are something like 100 m of them that believe in 'the rapture'...........jesus christ is coming back to earth on spaceships to take them all away!!!!!ffs!!!!
so how does some crazy notion like that 'infect' 100m souls?

Well as I said before having seen what I have in life I take nothing as a given regarding science religion and all and everything that experts proclaim to be fact.
As stars or points of consciousness we should only trust our self and the best information you can receive is self given in meditation.
On an everyday level trust is belief and belief is an illusion.
Tell a baby from day one that the world is a giant easter egg and that child will believe it.
Surely the whole reason for this forum and the occult is self awareness, but many don't even realise that as yet.
There must be a reason that you are asking this question so if you give that reason then perhaps a clearer understanding can be made because this is a question with many many different layers to it.

hi dave......
well it seems to me that the human race has gone wrong.......
we are at the top of the food chain.yet we cut down everything and make deserts ie u.s dust bowl and we poison our seas and skies........
the buddhists say that we have an innate goodness (our spirit).....which is pure......
some would say that our spirit just watches the game idly........
humanity seems to be captured by a madness with knee jerk reactions and hatred and beliefs in fantasy novels.we are led astray from an early age and whether we see it or not,we are programmed by conventional thinking.
shamanisn etc shows us a way to experience things for ourselves, free from dogma. yet oddly enough the prevailing powers whether they be christians, muslims etc always yelled witch or blasphemer etc to stamp their own brand of tyranny upon the proles.......
as i see things we are headed for a massive upheaval in the west......
and it wont be pretty.we have allowed the madness to get out of control .
So- we all have a spirit? if so it must be incredibly strong as it is from the source? yet we as people are incredibly weak.......
some say that we come to earth to experience life because a spirit cannot do many things ie eat food..........
yet as we are so weak it just seems to me that we have exchanged one prison for another.
without going on too much it just seems to me that we havent evolved at all in thousands of years. sure we have the web and planes etc yet people have been setting themselves up as deities for millenia and the sheep just follow.whether believing in mohammed or manson .
as we do not live in a modern global shambala then as far as i can see then there is nothing to be gained from trusting any of the gurus as they seem to have agendas which do not include our benefit or health whatsoever- although they assure us daily that they are doing everything for us..........
so who to trust? a true shaman will show you the way without reward.
in our every day life it seems that there is always an ulterior MOTIVE behind the actions of those that want to 'help' us.......

I think a lot of it has to be put down to personality and experience. Some people are naturally very trusting.
They immediately see the good in everyone and everything, while others are very distrusting and are always seeking a hidden motive.
I don't think people who are distrusting are naturally that way though. I think they become that way through various life experiences and 'learn' not to trust.
Of course the best way to be is a little of both - as with all things, balance is key. But this is easier said than done.
Billy, I'm sure a psycologist would have a field day with you. Trying to pinpoint where you became such a distrusting soul.
Is there anybody you trust? Do you trust your parents?

I understand what you are saying David...
the universal law is that we are all growing learning at out own rates some will learn more, others may not learn and grow very much.
life is not meant to be about comparing ourselves with others it is really mean to be about gaining understand of the self... and through that understanding we may be gaining understanding of others.. and in turn hopefully allowing them to be as they are
Billy trust yourself and the rest should not matter

hi dave......
well it seems to me that the human race has gone wrong.......
So does that mean that you have to, ask yourself who is suffering the pain from this thought of your's, You are, and only you.
we are at the top of the food chain.yet we cut down everything and make deserts ie u.s dust bowl and we poison our seas and skies........
That is right Billy and we shall reap what we have sown perhaps we are simply parasitic but due to our arrogant nature we just haven't realised it yet.
the Buddhists say that we have an innate goodness (our spirit).....which is pure......
some would say that our spirit just watches the game idly........
Our spirit creates the game it is of the one spirit and therefore it could
be no other way
humanity seems to be captured by a madness with knee jerk reactions and hatred and beliefs in fantasy novels.we are led astray from an early age and whether we see it or not,we are programmed by conventional thinking.
And we are given the amazing gift of life to make our own realisations. These realisations can be assisted by observing life in a detached way and not buying into it. We may use our lives to create a world of horrors or a world that we enjoy to the full.
shamanisn etc shows us a way to experience things for ourselves, free from dogma. yet oddly enough the prevailing powers whether they be Christians,Muslims etc always yelled witch or blasphemer etc to stamp their own brand of tyranny upon the proles.......
Shamanism teaches us above all that reality is just not real. So why buy into an illusion. That is not to say that you should not live a life doing things both right and wrong enjoy the ride because it is not a rehearsal
as i see things we are headed for a massive upheaval in the west......
and it wont be pretty.we have allowed the madness to get out of control .
So- we all have a spirit? if so it must be incredibly strong as it is from the source? yet we as people are incredibly weak.......
You are associating the material with the spiritual here. The spirit has no agenda. The mind creates one.
some say that we come to earth to experience life because a spirit cannot do many things ie eat food..........
yet as we are so weak it just seems to me that we have exchanged one prison for another.
What makes you think that there is anywhere to come to or depart from
without going on too much it just seems to me that we haven't evolved at all in thousands of years. sure we have the web and planes etc yet people have been setting themselves up as deities for millenia and the sheep just follow.whether believing in Mohamed or Manson .
Evolution is to be made within us within this thing that we call a lifetime, this is the evolution of the spirit. Your's and mine.
Not that they are separate of course. Evolution is another illusion. How cal the one evolve. But we little sparks of the one can evolve our understanding of what we are.
as we do not live in a modern global shambala then as far as i can see then there is nothing to be gained from trusting any of the gurus as they seem to have agendas which do not include our benefit or health whatsoever- although they assure us daily that they are doing everything for us..........
Just keep on feeling the pain Billy.
so who to trust? a true shaman will show you the way without reward.
in our every day life it seems that there is always an ulterior MOTIVE behind the actions of those that want to 'help' us.......
And their motives are of their minds and not of their spirit.

wow dave..........that is possibly the best and most sensible post you have ever made..........
i am not neccessarily in pain.....
but my poor little human mind cant work out what the whole bloody point of it is?
i do mostly just watch- just view the 'isness'.......
having experienced 'the space' i have felt the ecstasy-yet 99.9999999999999999999999 % of my time is spent in this 'reality'.........
i recently told you about a meditation where i was just like a fish swimming round and round.........well i am in a rut.....i know that-but now it seems my own spirit is taking the piss!
i firmly believe that certain things happened to me in my life to make me look beyond the material/visible world......
but if it is all an illusion then why not make a version where things are better? most of the religions tell us or demand that we essentially live as 'good' people............we are supposedly intelligent beings yet stupity, hysteria, greed and hatred run rife...................
so i guess the crux of the matter is this:
what i cannot 'get' is that we are all connected - by something pure and strong..............yet i dont see many of us who are strong ,unbending and striving to live lives full of valour and wonder ?(not everyone of course)
i think i have only ever met one person who was sooooooooo happy to be alive and loved every single minute.................he worked as a bomb disposal officer in ww2 so i guess he was grateful for every second he survived afterwards?
but there is just a general malaise .............
where i live now most of the people are piss artists or nutters-all sitting around just waiting to die........
so where is the glory? the shining light of spirit?
perhaps i have borrowed these ideas from somewhere else?
perhaps the futilty of life is something i should never have pondered?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
in the bhagavad gita krishna says to arjuna who is just about to have to fight and kill his cousins in a battle (and he doesnt want to do that).......
' i am in bondage-therefore you and all the others are in bondage-you have to do your duty'.........
so basically krishna is saying that you are all my playthings........and you are therefore stuffed!!!!!!!!!

What you focus on grows.. if you do not trust you will not see trust around you
I don't buy into the idea that you are just a human- that is belittling and insignificant and it is an excuse... it removes you from the responsibility of being as fantastic as you are..
who are you not to be great and powerful who are you to allow fear to limit you.. what are you scared of ? are you scared of being the outstanding one among others or are you afraid of shining so bright you can on longer see the darkness you now hold on to so tightly
you are a person and with all that humanity you have all the power in this world .. and beyond
