The gift of a Rune Knife.

I had been reading up on runes and wanted to make myself a proper set in the traditional way. I did have a set that I had made out of an old set of dominoes and I had painted the runic symbols on with Magis nail varnish. Money was a bit tight at the time and I also had an idea of making proper Runes and selling them to earn some cash.
I was invited to a party by my then circle leader and it was a strange time in my life which I will not bore you with here. A practicing majician with whom I had been studying called Geoff was at the party and so was a young man that I had met through my association with him. The party was great and everyone there was either a Witch a Spiritualist Medium or into the occult in some way and they all got on fine together.
The party went on until around three in the morning and them we all began to go to our various homes.
The next day I was at home and a around six in the evening the doorbell rang and there stood Philip Geoff's young apprentice. I invited him in and told him that he looked terrible with dark lines under his eyes and generally tired and worn out. He told me that on his return home he had been driven to go to his workshop in the rear of the house and to make something for me.
He was a tuned in fellow and it soon became apparent that he was to forge a knife blade so this he set about doing immediately firing up his forge in readiness. He needed a handle for the blade and as his house backed onto some woods he went to see if he could find something suitable. He noticed the root of a blackthorn growing up out of the ground and gave it a tug. To his surprise it came away easily and was quite dry. Strange as the bush itself was in it's full flush of Summer growth. He shaped the root and left an area for runes to be carved onto the handle as he now new exactly what it was that he was making. When finished it had a natural shape within the root that closely resembled a hare. One thing bothered him about the knife though. It was very uncomfortable in the palm of the hand but each time he tried to cut off the offending knob of wood something told him to leave well alone. When you are working the way that he was working your ignore your intuition at your peril so he decided after several attempts to leave it.
Back to my house and there he stood holding the results of his labour. He had neither slept nor rested and had come straight over with the knife. How did you know that I needed a rune knife was all that I could find to say. I don'tknow was the answer but you do. He said that there was one problem though, the knife would hurt my hand when I used it. I took it and his face was a picture to behold. I was left handed and the knife was practically moulded to my palm. He of course was right handed.

Such gifts are treasures and I have a few of them in my home. Not all knives of course. I consider it to be from the universe and would never ever let it go. I went on to carve many Runes with it and the exercise was more like a meditation than work.

Thank you Philip and thank you universe for this special gift.
