The Dark and the Light

I was thinking about what we term dark, and light.

If we are spirit, and I don't know if we are, but if we are, then surely spirit, our spirit, is neither dark nor light.

Does our attachment to the concept of opposites "within us" ie that we are both light and dark, distract us from becoming more aware of our true spirit as we are looking at things as being separated from one another and therefore causing a division within ourself?

The mystics look to oneness for self realisation.

Do they have it right?

Spirit is neither light nor dark. This reminds me of an argument I once had over on another forum (no names, please).
Spirit does not exist in the way we exist. They do not have crude human emotions, they do not have love, hate, anger, pride, jealousy or all the other feelings and emotions we get.
And this is where people start to get terribly upset.
When a person dies and thier spirit is set free the person no longer exists. All they are is an imprint, an memory that the spirit is able to bring to the fore at will.
People left behind get upset at this idea because they liek to think thier Auntie Maud or dead Uncle Stanley is 'up there looking out for them' when in actual fact Maud and Stanley no longer exsist in any form except in the memory of a spirit who, quite frankly, is busy getting on doing other things than having to worry about keep popping back to earth to comfort someone who used to be it's niece or nephew.

Anyway, the point of all this is spirit don't need to be light or dark because they don't live by the same rules as we do.

We have to stop thinking of the spirit world as a mere continuation of this world.
It's like nothing we could possibly imagine. There are different natural laws, different rules, up is down and down is up.

And none of us will really know until we get there.

Perhaps I was talking about spirits rather than spirit, my fault for not using the right word.  Spirits certainly do by all accounts seem to have very human emotions at times, and do seem to go to people of a similar disposition.

If their is such a thing as spirit as you describe then it must be more the life force than the personality.

So then spirit contains neither dark nor light.

What part of us brings that into being?

It all sounds like the biblical fall from grace.

(I know....here we go again....)

Dark and light are judgements, perspectives, points from which to view things. Dark and light give contrast, shadow, shades of meaning and of understanding.

They are constructs with which to gain an understanding of what we could not percieve without a point from which to look.

And so, yes, they hold us back, but only if we are not prepared to change our perspective.

is this dark/light akin to the old Right Hand and Left HAnd path ?
In which case darkness becomes a force of self want and light of uniification?
Its a grey area eh?
Nature herself can be very evil but not in the cause of want, more of need. Whic isn't dark, nor Light but Light and the shadows?
very grey area.
Likewise, the three pillars of the holy temple, symbols. One side strength, one side beauty? which is dark and light? neither, they both support the one temple via the Middle.
Or another analogy,  A sword in each hand. one to yield and one to wield, to knight and too, to behead. What is light and what is dark?
perhaps it's as simple as one is to be seen and one is not.One is complete and one is to be.
What doies Jeohvah mean? I am That I Am or I will Be That I will Be. One light and unmoving, one dark and forming. etc.
Spirit would reflect that. I am one. I am Light. I am Many. I am dark.

Without darkness how can you aprecciate light?

Thats my two pennies worth.

:)

More to the point, without the darkness you cannot have the light
Waffle King

Light follows the Dark, Darkness follows the light, neither mean much, they both follow one another, neither can exist without the other, but it's the light and dark inside us that pays the rent Big Grin
