Stambridge Church Essex a strange placeSome while back I was helping a friend research Ley lines in Essex. This involved a lot of field work as it's not much use drawing lines on maps without looking at the sites and finding hard evidence.
One such field trip involved a trip to Stambridge Church near Rochford Essex.
By a stroke of luck the church was open so we wasted no time in looking around inside. It is amazing what you can find in old churches but that's a story for another day.
After a while my friend asked me to stand facing the alter and to close my eyes. Thinking that he wanted some psychic input I complied. The next thing that happend I can only describe a being wrapped in perfect silence akin to being wrapped in cotton wool. Then without warning I was violently spun around and thrown to the ground by some invisible something.
When I stood back up feeling a little dazed my friend said "that's funny that is exactly what happened to me when I was here last"
Cheers Terry
Nice one

This is a picture that I took of the church where I had the experience. I visited it yesterday and noticed another anomaly.
The church is still accessed form the north door and not the south.
I am sure that this must be a rare thing as the north door was considered to be the Devils door. I do not know why this is so but I will try to research it.
The church also stands on a Ley line that runs through Canewdon Church. canewdon was where I saw a black figure no more than ten feet away from me. Not psychicly but with the physical eyes.

I have no idea. I saw nothing and it happened very suddenly.
Some of the old sites have what are known as guardians. I think that maybe I was not welcome to link into the site for some reason.

I realise that I missunderstood this post. The dark figure was at Canewdon and this topic is about Stambridge Church. Perhaps we could start another thread on Canewdon Church or find an old one. I have no idea what the figure in Canewdon Church yard was. All I know is that it was real and moved with intelligent purpose.
What do you think it was?

I have just disscovered that Ethelwulf the Saxon king of Wessex was buried at Stambridge in Essex.
Yet another King buried in this area where I live.
I am going to call Anne and explain that cold or not it is time for some more psychic detective work. The vision of Athelstan reffered to in another post still puzzles me and I want to know what if any connectionn he had with Great Wakering Church, and indeed which Athelstan I saw walking accross the church yard toward me. I was given the name but not the spelling.
Psychic input is great but it is in a language that has no base.

No that was yet another king buried in the area of nearby priory park. I posted a picture of some bare land and I think you picked up the image of a king. Well it was in fact a Saxon Kings burial site.

Anne and I returned to Great Stambridge Church yesterday to photograph the stained glass windows. Anne obtained the keys from a very helpful and busy vicar and so we could gain access. Anne did not realise what had happened to me in the church some years previously so I asked her to stand in the spot where I was knocked over. I "forgot" to tell her what had happened to me as I did not want to put ideas into her head. I know that she has not had internet access for a while now so she knew nothing of the inc dent. She meditated and saw a large group of men rushing to wards her carrying spears and Shields. I think I may have uncovered what it was that knocked me over. Bowled over by an advancing army it would seem. Anne has finlay gone on line so I will be pestering her to put her account on here as she picked up quite a lot that I have not mentioned.
The picture below is of Anne standing on the spot where I was bowled over and I have also put one on of a particularly nice stained glass
window.

Anne still can't work out how to get onto the forum so she has emailed the following. it is her report from our field trip.
Dave asked me to stand on a particular spot facing the altar. I felt nothing, but a few steps forward again towards the altar and I felt and saw an advancing group of "warriors". They had [for want of a better word] bandages around their legs, they had long hair of a dark blond colour with decorated bands worn around the forehead and fastened at the back of the head.. They were carrying sheilds in their left hand and an axe type "thingy" in their right hand. Dave said that where I was standing was probably where the original wall was. They rushed through from outside which then was probably open land. They appeared to stop just past where I was standing and usher forward a small child who offered Dave, what looked like a stone tablet, with writing on it.I didnt understand the strange letters so was not much help there. Going back to the sheilds. I could see quite plainly that the sheilds were more oblong than round and were decorated round the edges with black markings and then coming towards the centre of the sheild colours of red and green. In the middle of the sheild was a bird, black or dark grey. depicted as facing out with wings extended. Again in this church as in previous church we had visited, I got the impression of someone saying "seven sisters" Having meditated we then started looking at the stained glass windows. There in one of the windows was the array of blue stars. This time with six women [Dave has explained previously regarding that topic of the seven sisters] A strange afternoon but most enjoyable. Who were those "warriors" and why were they rushing through the Church? Anne
