Samhain festivities planned.

having been exiled to West london the locals have rumbled me.
Amongst my new found friends  we have decided upon a little gathering this Friday.
Unfortuanatley they want to do a ouija board session. Should I indulge in their little folly?
I will set it up in my recording studio running the Jack Dark White Noise generator software all night together with the trusty Sony Night cam. I'll use some traditional props like charged pendulumns to warn of astral intrusion.
Being a bit mischeivous at this time of yearI might go ahead with the plan. Someone with common sense tell me why I shouldn't.
I have been asked to perform some trad' rituals to for the benefit of the party too. Bearing in mind this is all at my girlfriens house and i've already managed to bring some strange weirdness to the house which thanfully doesn't bother her.
Yes I am too old to ask for common sense. But i'll ask anyone else to provide pointers I may forgot.
david hobbs

Well the first pointer is that you don't ask you just do.

teaching you to suck eggs maybe.

The second idea is not to judge that Ouija is a bit boring because to some who are new on the path it is doorway to the hidden.

Yes I know it's not the best way in but it's a start.

The other thing is that they do not know what you do and probably never will so don't get frustrated with them.

You won't ask again I bet
Samjaza

Well it's a done deal. Will post anything up that happens.
Anyone got any seasonal recipes I can bake?
Should be interesting.
david hobbs

Raymonds the man for that information Sam.

Perhaps he will look in and tell you.
Samjaza

Found some 'soul cake' recipies' which I will dabble with and form into feastly fiendish shapes, I have amended in red;-

450g (1lb) Plain Flour
170g (6oz) Butter Country life butter as espoused by Johnny Rotten of course
170g (6oz) Caster Sugar
85g (3oz) Currants
3 Egg Yolks
1 tsp Ground Mixed Spice or Ground Allspice
I purchased some siberan ginseng powder and guarana powder recently, i intend to substitute above spices with aformentioned wide awake powder here
˝ tsp Ground Ginger
Saffron [Optional] I reccomend this, gives the cakes a lovely tinge and earthy taste
Pinch Salt
Warm Milk

Pre-heat oven to 180°C: 350°F: Gas 4.
If you use the saffron, drop a few strands into a little warm water or milk and allow to stand for 10-15 minutes.
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, gradually adding the sugar, beat until light and fluffy.
Beat the eggs yolk and add a little at a time whilst continuing to beat.
Gradually fold in the sieved the flour, spices and salt to the mixture.
Stir in the currants, saffron mixture (if used) and enough warm milk to produce a soft dough.
Divide into 18-24 pieces and shape into flat cakes, marking each with a cross. why use a symbol of torture eh?Maybe they mean the equal armed cross, i intend to use the five starred pentagram here
Place on a greased baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden.
I will lightly spread some of that wonderful Manuka honey for a healthy kick at end

Makes 18-24

Easy Peasey.  Have some nice English apples to make a topping too.

If anyone is around West London Friday and they smell vast quantities of Abra-Melin Compound purchased from StarChild shops in Glastonbury then you'll be near me.

Samjaza

To be honest i like cooking. very self sufficient me. Anyway men are better cooks, look at Delia Smiths how to cheat at cooking book. Might as well eat processed food.
Raymond

I hate cooking. I think the secret of being a good cook (the same secret to being a good anything) is you have to enjoy it.

I don't enjoy cooking, not one step of it. Thus, I am not a good cook.
meiah

Likewise. I like pottering about making jam and stuff, but not cooking complicated stuff. I can do a mean stew, and crumble, and a roast.........proper english stodge.

Actually, I do quite good cakes, but only if I want to eat them.

Very True.
Reading your posts, if you talk as you write you sound very similar to a RAymond I once knew who used to drink up at The Misty Moon Pub Camden for the "guild of pagans." Sure its not the same bloke though.
Raymond

No it's not. The Guild Of Pagans is one organisation I'm yet to be kicked out of.

Are these the soul cakes? They look good. I wish there were more time, I would have got you to knock me up a batch.

I must say, I do like your goblet. I gave mine away and started using a drinking horn.

Big mistake.
david hobbs

Well how bads that then.  GHE has found a new caterer.

Posh equipment you have sam.

I bet you cook on an Aga too.

I was once told by a real tough guy that when he cooked it was an act of love.

I didn't argue but I see what he means.

Often it is done for others, and I suppose that if it is done freely and with good intent then it is an act of love.

So love me and send the food parcel mate.

These are the cakes reffered to earlier

The goblet! it's the Angels of Enoch Chalice based on John dees design. I watched a bit of that Merlin programme the other week and some chap was drinking from it which caused me to jump from the armchair waving my boney finger explaining to my bewildered girlfriend how  John dee wasn't born yet, let alone designed the chalice they were using, "Sack the Researchers" I called.

Posh equipment Dave ? I'll take some snaps of my other stuff. Despite it all, the most prized items in my collection are all handmade and free.

I ate one of the things yesterday, I don't think adding guarana and ginseng was a good idea. Midnight last night and i'm sitting there eyes wide awake !
Raymond

Don't get me started on that 'Merlin' trash. I mean, since when was Guinivere black???

Alledgedly Cleopatra was.
I bet Guinivere had red hair. Always a sucker for red haired women.
