These pictures were taken by me in a local church.  I have recently been going around various churches and taking pictures of things that catch my eye.

some of these scenes do not fit in with anything that I know about the church in general.  I will be visiting a lot more churches again when the weather improves and anyting I think anomolous will be put onto this site.  Why not take a look around your own area and take some picci's.  I promise the search will open your eyes to things that you had no idea where there.

What do you think.

I would also be pleased with any psychic input .  Who knows it could turn into a GHE quest if there is enough interest.

Avenging angels, Knights Templar, the Lady of the Lake, the Sword in the Stone, all stories which have captured the imagination of children and adults for centuries, and all of which involve religious belief, and struggle of one religion over another.
Why should they not be in a church?

It seems a little unusual.  I have visited many many churches and the Arthurian windows are unique to me.  The slaying of dragons is of course featured in most churches but not Arthur.

Take a look at the second picture down and see if you spot anything odd

His spear is round the wrong way. He's attacking with the handle.

That's right Kas.  I will try to find out what the symbolism of this is.

Anyone have any ideas?
meiah

I have a question.

The chap next to him in the background on the right is holding a satff topped with a crescent moon and a star.

Any idea what that symbolises?
Mel S

A star and crescent can symolize Man & woman. In general  when shown together it represents mankind .

(It can also represent referance to Islam..)

A backwards pointing spear sybolizes peace.. When a spear is facing forwars its intention is for war and power.. A backwards pointing spear  still holds the symbol of power but as the blade is turned away it is of peacful intention.
Kas

Well done Mel.

Taken together I find these an odd collection of windows.  If you look a the final window it looks like the Devil card in the Tarot Pack.  Instead of the mortals being chained to the Devil they are chained to an Angel.  I am puzzled by the commisioning by the church and mind set of the manufacturer.
There are lots more anomilies in this church.  Freemasonary symbolism is everywhere.
Kas

Myself and Mel have been visiting alot of churches in our area lately.
I will certainly pay more attention to the windows in future.
Mel S

Symbolism is fantastic, I studied it for a short while whilst doing my history of art exam.. You would not believe the amount of symbolism and hidden meanings that surround us. Some of the greatest works of art have many hidden meanings, suggestions and messages in them. The artist would often hide his interpretation within symbolism, In many cases it was done for fun by the artist, or to poke fun at the paintings commissioner. Often religious works of art have taboo symbolism hidden in withing the painting somewhere... something minor that only the artist would be aware of.

Very clever really.

If I wanted to leave a message or tradition that would be preserved throught the ages where would the best place be.

Answers in less than two hundred words please.

Deep in the forest stands a large and wise Oak tree.
Forth branch on the left.

"Hobbs was here"

David... Out of curiosity (if you know) does this church have a connection to the Knights Templar?
david hobbs

It certainly has strong freemanonry symbolism but I do not know if the church had templar connections.  There is a place some 3/4 of a mile away called Temple Farm and as you probably know that usualy denotes Templar connections.  I would say that there is a very strong possibility that the church would have some templar connections in the past.  The nearby priory (now defunct) was run by monks of the Clunic order.
