Manilow for the massesA shopping centre in New Zealand has been having problems with large groups of rowdy teenagers causing trouble for it's shoppers and staff have come up with an unusual way of dealing with it.
They play a non-stop spool of Barry Manilow songs which, they claim keep the boisterous kids calm.
I don't know if this working but I would imagine it does.
I am quite sure that half the reasons why young people today are as angry and violent as they are is because of the dreadful music they listen to.
Listen to any piece of gangster rap music and you'll soon see why they feel so angry and violent all the time.
As for Barry Manilow, I quite like some of his songs but if I worked at that shopping centre and had to listen to him all day, every day I think it would make me want to be a bit violent to be honest.

Being a young person, i'd like to point out, not all of us listen to gangsta rap, me included and i'd rather Rod Stuart to Barry here, but still, thats genius!

not sure where you got the article bit it is actually in Australia where this all started ... they began to play loud Barry Manilow to keep away rowdy teens from public places .. and it worked I guess the idea has taken hold in other areas
isn't it good to see people actually using their brains and being proactive instead of just complaining

I read it in a newspaper here EG. Maybe New Zealand have started using it too.
I can understand the reasoning behind it and you're right, whatever works is a good thing but I have to wonder who actually first sat down and thought, "I know how we'll deal with these bloody kids,...... BARRY MANILOW!!!"
LOL!!! I mean, why Barry?

it was actually in a country town in what you might call out back Australia where it is hot and dry and not much for the kids to do at all.... the used Barry Manilow from what I can recall because they thought the kids would hate it ha!.. while the adults wouldn't mind it .. kind of a keep them away strategy
from what I recall it worked on the kids but also on many of the adults

I like Barry Manilow! He's a very under-rated performer. Okay, some of his stuff is pure crap but he's had his moments.
Where would any wedding reception be without 'Copacabana'? And how many of us have sung into a hairbrush along with 'I Write The Songs'? And who can say they didn't shed a tear the very first time they heard 'Mandy'?
Oh, Just me then......

I actually don't know the song Mandy... but the others yes...
I'm no snob when it comes to music I love most music its is entertaining and its is always a plus when you can sing along
