Like it or hate it

I has not been a good year as far as losing people is concerned.

Paul just hanged himself.

Paul worked for my son in law and in fact taught him all about the marble and granite business.  He was found by his son Dan who I play golf with sometimes.

What is it about this time of year.

I don't know if this is the right section for this topic but I guess it shows that we do become emotional at this time of the years.

So do you love it or hate it?

Christmas that is
mark

sorry to hear this dave

christmas wouldnt be the same without these people   and animals   so ye i like it
Bravo

Statistically the summer period is the most active for suicide, more over Christmas is a common misconception.

However, for anyone to be in such a state that they see suicide as the only way out is very sad indeed.

Christmas?  Love it.
Raymond

Love it, Love it, Love it!

Why do we always need to apportion blame when it comes to suicide? I think some people just get fed up with life and that's it.

I think we mostly have a need to try to understand why people we love and care about take their own lives....

I find Christmas hard myself I have lost a great number of loved ones at this time of the year and those memories often come back..

I also find it difficult to be alone at this time of the year and many families split kids between them which I think is most likely hard on everyone....

Raymond you are close to your family that can make Christmas appealing there are many that are reminded how alone they are at his time of year..

When the weather gets cold people tend to suffer depression of some kind (it's a medical fact recently proven apparently).
I'm not really a one for Christmas over here in France, as although I am an atheist I miss seeing the people singing Christmas carols in the streets, this doesn't happen over here !
I see that in the UK for once the telly over Christmas will be 90% repeats instead of 10%.
Roll on Spring ( born in May I prefer spring anyway !)
Raymond

I can appreciate that EG but I have to say that nobody really needs to be alone - at any time of the year.

When I ran my pub there was this one bloke that used to come in. He had no family, no friends, nobody liked him.
He was the most miserable swine you could ever wish to meet.

The only reason I didn't ban him from the pub was because I actually felt sorry for him (yes, hard to believe I know).

If somebody has lost all their family through death then that's a sad thing, but when a person has NOWHERE to go at Christmas - not even to a friend, then I think it says far more about that person than it does about the people around them.

Even if they did a bit of charity work over christmas - with the homeless or something.

Nobody HAS to be alone.
evergreen

totally agree Raymond...  but also we are all different and each of us are at different stages of our lives  some people just don't know how to help themselves in the least...  I always hope that they get over feeling sorry for themselves and get out there :)  it is a choice though all the same they have to realise that themselves

I love christmas, for me its the best time of year.
Its so magical.
not just for the children but for my husband and i also.
We tend to go overboard this one time of year and spoil ourselves.
I have asked for a huge tv to go on the wall and as i am writing this, i am looking at a christmas pressie the length of the one wall by the side of me all wrapped.lol. so fingers crossed i hae what i want. i usually do.lol.
Plus i have lots of pressies under the tree, so i,m very excited.

Mike wanted a new graphics card for his laptop as its five years old now, and he says a laptop that age is ancient.
sooooo, lol, i have bought him a new laptop, but he believes that we are going to look for a graphics card over the christmas, lol. plus the other pressies i,ve bought him from the kids and myself.

so yes we do go overboard, but if we don,t spoil each other now and then, then who will???

                     MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.xxxxx
billy nomates

dave- not taking the michael........

i very much doubt that it was xmas that made him kill himself.........

as for being alone etc............

we should be nice to others AT ALL TIMES not just xmas.....
not raymond obviously!
david hobbs

No it was probably just a matter of time before it happened.

People did see it coming and did try to help but to no avail.

Yes we should try to be nice to people all year round.
Raymond

F*ck you, nomates.
Bravo

It's nice to be nice.

You see plenty of people in positions of minor power treating people who work under their charge as though they were some kind of scum.  I once worked in a place where every now and then I had to go into this office that had like 4 people in it.  The person in charge of herself and three other was a right madam.
I do remember one particular time where I just though stuff it and ignored her as she decided it was my turn for a rant.  She started going on about me ignoring her so I told her there was no dog there so why was she speaking to one.  Then I walked out, she was a right cow and the job was crap anyway, was only to get me through the recession

Sorry to hear about your friend David.

Suicide.. I think its incredibly sad when someone gets to the stage where they feel it would be better to end their own life.  Very sad indeed.

Christmas... I do like it but its too commercialized.  I really only get involved because of my son.  It would be better to have the snow around at this time too. Oh and the repeats on tv...  do wish they would come up with new stuff!

I agree, we should be nice to people all year round and not just for Christmas.  As Bravo said, its nice to be nice, though I have to say, only if its genuine!

For some folks the only time they feel any self worth is when they have control over others.

I know exactly what you mean Bravo because I have the same attitude that has evolved through dealing with people over the years.

To ignore an egotist is the worst form of torture that you could lay upon them,

Excellent I say.
