Ley lines

I have in my office a Ley Line map of Essex.  I helped a friend of mine over many years with field trips and research as he could not drive.

I have to say that there are most definatly Stones etc placed quite deliberatley in strait lines.  We even found several unreported stones simply by looking along the lines.

Thing is, why did they do it?  Why go to all that trouble over something that to us in the year 2008 seems pointless.

Theories anybody.

I read one "explanation" that Ley Lines often follow the course of underground streams, rich in minerals picked up by the water as it seeps through the levels of rock / soils etc and it is the magnetic energy of these streams that we are sensing (or something like that).

So, maybe the stones were originally simply to mark good sites for wells?

David I am sure you can see ley lines yourself...  you know when you look into the earth and see the lines of water and energy..

anyway..
I had no idea that stones were used to mark them at all

It is a good theory but where are the wells now?  When you look at these lines in the field it would I think be pretty obvious if there where wells even at a few of the sites.

The actual theory is centered around underground springs that do not break the surface.  For instance churches when dowsed by a ley researcher will be found to have a spring beneath an alter or perhaps one in each corner of the building.

Some leys have dew ponds as part of their formation so water is obviously a part of the story but not all of it I feel.

I wish that I could see ley lines but sadly I cannot.  My sight is very limited I work more on intuition and the odd flash of inspiration and occasional psychic seeing and feeling.

A Ley Line appears to be some form of change in the earth's magnetic field. It is still, with all our technology, difficult to define the power than constitutes a Ley Line.
Whatever a Ley Line is, It seems that birds, fish and animals use them as direction finders. It is believed that birds migrate using the earths magnetic fields. I think the human race used them in a very similar way in early evolution. A gift most humans have now sadly lost.
birds, whales, bees and bacteria can navigate using the earth's magnetic field.   I think once  man too navigated by use of these Ley Lines. Standing stones would be set on Ley lines. From one stone you would always be able to see the next and these stone rows led to a point where the Ley Lines crossed. Here they built a Stone Circle where people using the stones would meet, like a crossroads.
I believe that the Circles were meeting places, trading places, places of worship. Wherever people meet is the place to teach and preach, whether it is Paganism, Druidism or Christianity.

Probably the most sensible theory yet.

Clever and good looking.

LOL ...Hey im not always a bimbo you know... I can sometimes make sense.

Actually Ley lines have fascinated me ever since I was in junior school and we were told that a Ley line ran through our school playing field.  Have read loads about Ley Lines over the years this is the explanation that makes most  sense to me.

First thing is to buy a proper ordanance survey map of your area.  Then you look for allignments.  Pre reformation churches, moats, places where three old paths or roads meet.  barrows mounds etc.

Then you have to do the field work.

Lines on maps will prove nothing to you Mel but once you realise the scale and nature of these things within the living landscape you will be left with no doubt that Leys, what ever they are, do exist.

Question for Evergreen.  Do you have Ley Lines in Tasmania.

If you enjoy the countryside you would really enjoy going around some of the ancient sites of Essex.

We have standing stones long barrows ley lines in abundance and even a maze at Saffron Walden.  Get Kas to buy you some wellies and take you to some of them.

When I first started going to the old sites I found it facinating to think that these where made by people thousands of years ago.  It can almost become a spiritual quest as you begin to link in with the ancestors.
Some of the pre rerormation churches are wonderful places to visit and the carvings in both wood and stone can make you ponder on what went on in the minds of our forgoten and sadly ignored ancestors.  These are places of true mystery when you look at them in depth.

May I recomend a book called, The View Over Atlantis.  I am sure it will whet your appetite.

Well we have lines that I see in the earth where it feels like two or more different energies are running along side each other, (I can only explain it as  plates rubing together or meeting if you like)  since the Brits colonised this place in late 1700's chances are that we have had some similar techniques for where our older buildings and settlements are placed. Though Tassie being hotter and dryer and then also more mountainous than Britian would have some obvious differences...

As far as the aboriginal places I have had experience with I feel that they definately settled in energy spots where the energy ran clear and strong for them... They of course are very spiritually connected person with such a earth connection I never ceased to be impressed with their knowledge of how the earth feels ..  I have wondered since aboriginals were nomadic people if they travelled with the energy fields and moved on when they changed or shifted... This is one question I still haven't found any answers to

One thing I can share is that I had a lovely couple come for readings (seperately) and in both reading I was given that the leylines that ran under the house were affecting their moods and energy levels.. it was advised that they move.. First I have had of anything like that in a  reading but the info I was given was that their energy was flowing away from them towards the river...  and because they were both so sensitive to energies it was having major effects on their health and wellbeing...

one thing I have had a little experience with is the water lines and the earth meridans (grids) that kind of thing I can see them pretty clearly  .. they would be world wide of course

I will have to start bribing Kas with the prospect of a pub lunch I think.

Thanks David.

Do Aboriginies have any tradition of Leys or similar ?
evergreen

I don't know unfortuantely they killed nearly all the Tasmanian Aboriginals...   .

It also seems that most tribes had different customs and varying beliefs,  When I have some time I'll look into it
