Just a thoughtCorrect me if I am wrong here.
The Vatican is a self contained state with it's own currency it's own army and a totalitarian attitude on religion.
It has a dictator called the Pope who's word is law.
It is fanatically religious fabulously powerful and wealthy.
It is in short a dictatorship
Now is it my imagination or have the Americans and us Brits been justifying what we do against other countries by saying that they are undemocratic societies.
Take Iran for instance. Portrayed here in the Western media as a nation ruled by religious all powerful undemocratic fanatics.
So how long before we decide to liberate Vatican city.

Why should we bring democracy to the world? It's crap.
You can't walk the streets without fear of some drunken spotty group of kids high on booze and drugs kicking you to death for so much as an ill favoured look.
Some of these 'dictatorships' are fantastic, people can go out all day leaving their doors wide open and nobody would even think of robbing their stuff. People walk about in safety, as when the criminals do offend, they are caught, and they are harshly dealt with.

Never.
The Vatican is christian, mostly white, westernised, America-friendly, mostly quiet, pose no real threat to anybody and don't force their women to walk around with tablecloths on their heads.
They're good guys.

Raymond, Catholic, Roman Catholic, not Christian

Raymond

Really?
So when did Catholics stop being Christian then?

I think it was when the Pope sided with the Nazis.
And any other fascist group who would serve their purpose.
We have a dictatorship in the midst of Europe and it is totaly accepted.
Did you ever read that in the papers.
It matters not to me in the slightest I was just pointing out something which to me is an anomily.

It's an argument along the same lines as 'Are they terrorists or freedom fighters'?
It's all relative. It depends which side you're on.
|
david hobbs

Actually it depends on how much power (wealth) you have and how much you can be used to further political and military ambitions.
What did the Romans ever do for us?

Give us straight roads.

Shame they don't give us straight answers.
Is there a God
Of course my son.
Am I forgiven
Yes my son for a small cosideration either fiscal or f*ck hole.

The Vatican isn't a dictatorship, it's more of republic, the Pope is the figurehead, spear point, w/e you want to call him, the Church is actually run by the collage of cardinals they're inferiors , and Raymond, i don't belive they have even been Christiens, a few thousand years ago Calliguliar (sp and i belive) changed the Roman Empire's Relgious following from Paganism and invented his own (Roman Catholics) after re-writing the Holy Scripture (Bible to us common folk)

I don't know much about Christianity, I've never read the Bible and in all my life I could count on one hand how many times I've been inside a church, but one thing I can say with absolute certainty Waffle old chum, Catholics are, always were and always will be very much Christians.

Catholicism is very much a Christian faith, believing in the holy trinity of the father, the son (Jesus Christ, hence the Christian element) and the holy spirit.
|
Waffle King
|
Granted Similiar, but not similiar enough to be painted with the same brush, christiens belive that God is Jesus father, catholics belive that Jesus was god on Earth, and that, my pedigree chums, is the difference and the reason why the Christen and Catholic churches had wars many many centuries ago

WK you really shouldn't state as fact, or in this case attempt to inform folk, of things that you clearly know very little about. There's nothing wrong with not knowing much about any given subject of course, but to try to educate people on such a subject does take the biscuit somewhat.

Waff you do need to read up on these things a bit more mate.
It was all about power and control, not about who thought who was God mate.
|
Raymond
|
Waff, Catholics, Church of England, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Baptists, Protestants, Methodists, Penticosts, Born agains, Quakers and a whole host of other folk all come under the umbrella of Christianity.
Of course they all differ in their worship slightly but they all believe that Jesus was the son of God and sent to earth to save mankind. They all follow the Bible and worship Jesus Christ.
"CHRIST" - that's where the 'CHRIST' in CHRISTIAN comes from.
Sheesh, it's coming to something when somebody has to be informed of the basics of the christian faith by a card-carrying pagan heathen!!!

Well back to the thread.
Which ever way you dress it up there is a dictatorship in the middle of Europe.
It's tentacles reach every corner of the globe and it is all powerful and very very wealthy.
Who do newly elected USA presidents jet of to visit and do a bit of arse licking. The Pope of course.
Why did Tony Blair choose to become a Catholic.
Because Europe is mostly Catholic and it is the only way that he could get elected to be it's first president.
The dictator decides how high the lackey leaps.
So here we have an exponent of democracy in the world who just cannot wait to grovel to a dictator.
How bloody ironic.

Bravo

You've got to admit, the people who first thought up religion were bloody clever.
Here's a way of getting other people to throw their lives away in pursuit of furthering your own ends.
Nah, they wont swallow that one. Will they?

Not anymore.
But I'm sure given half a chance.....

You do not need to kill people in order to control them especially when you control them through faith.
Fear in the mind is very powerful and to be indoctrinated from birth is almost impossible to overcome.
Don't please equate this sophisticated style of control with some tin pot foamy mouthed third world gangster.
This is refined brainwashing and I cannot accept that those who run the system are not fully aware of that fact.
|
Raymond
|
Of course they are.
I've said before, I see it in my nephew's school. It's all very subtle and understated but it's definately there.
I can understand why my sister sent him to a religious school, state schools in her area are dreadful and if you want your kid to have a decent education you have no choice but to send it to a church school but I just don't sit comfortably with the whole idea of brainwahing kids.
They really should do away with religious schools.
