energy

where do we get our energy from?

what things effect your energy levels..

and how can you protect them or keep them high?

i have my theories on this matter been a work in progress and still going.. I have one client in particular that struggles with this issue .... does anyone else do this .. if so which of your traits do you think create or add to this issue if any?

Interesting question, Evergreen.

My instant response would be sunlight.  I suffer very badly every winter from SAD.  The cold and lack of daylight drains me of all energy so that I almost go into a form of hibernation and simply can't function.

There is another form of energy drain and that's other people, particularly those close to you.  When you're a child, or a young person, you have so many ideals and ambitions and nothing seems impossible.  You're fired up with optimism.  If you have to live around people, starting with parents, who are always telling you you can't do this or that, or you mustn't, or meeting your aspirations and dreams with scorn and derision, all that energy and enthusiasm eventually comes to a grinding halt and you're just too tired and despondent to bother to struggle any more and you just think what's the point, if all anybody's going to do is put rocks in my path?

I think every child is born with boundless energy, but it's always other people who take it away.  That's why it's so important to encourage and praise a child, no matter what they want to do, or you take away their sense of self-worth, their imagination, their optimism and everything that makes them a unique human being.

It could of course be a health issue.

We can and do tire ourselves out with negative thought.

If I go on holiday I an recharged the moment I begin the first day.

I think newness gives us an energy boost so perhaps if we really did see each new day as a new beginning our energy levels would be higher.

Boredom is another drain and depression yet another.

What is exhausted first the mind or the body.

I think that as often as not it is the mind.

I certainly agree with you there, David.

would definitely agree with you there... the summer months seem to give boundless amounts of energy and the feeling of well being!

so true... there are those friends or family members which you can go to for a "pick you up" for they have a positive effect on your mind set... whilst there are others that you have to feel as though you have to be in a very positive mood before contacting, as you know you will be exhausted by their negativity.

i am a great believer in every new day is just that... bringing new possibilities and adventures.... i feel this definitley helps keep energy levels up and a continued positive outlook!

I have many minds on this.

Positive, happy thoughts keep me feeling energised.....but then again, good clean anger can also give me so much strength and energy, and is often percieved as a negative emotion.

To my mind (now) apathy, boredom and stagnation are the things that leave me feeling low.

Yes, I feel great in sunshine, but i feel amazing when it is frosty, and the air is clear, or when mist rises, or when the rain buckets down in abundance. A thunderstorm makes me feel tinglingly alive.
Dull days are not so good. The weather equivalent of boredom?

Any passionate people make me feel wonderful, whether they are happy, excited, angry.....but moaners make me feel tired.

I guess it comes down to living rather than existing. Does that make any sense?

 completely!

music i also find energising, either with the stillness it brings or the memories/ imagary that it stimulates.

great answers.....  :)

I think our energy can come from so many places as you ahve all said WOW isnt' the the earth a great energiser if we remind ourselves to get out there and allow ourselves the time  :)

.. and I think we can allow ourselves to be depleted in energy when we feels things are a task that we MUST do.. so when I find others that drain me I check to see where in the situation I feel the need to be doing for them instead of just being me ... am I taking responsibility for them or perhaps consciously or unconsciously wanting something in return and not having my own needs met.. that is draining

I am a high energy person in general ......  I love it people are drawn to it - nothing wrong with that ..... but I have learned and still am learning about not allowing them to steal my energy.. I've realised it has nothing to do with them  and everything to do with me :)
