If there's one thing that makes my blood boil it's the continual over-useage of the word 'evil'.
Even in paganism itself that word is thrown about all over the place for everything that isn't bombarded with light.
So, just for anybody who may be interested, here's a brief outline of the darkness and light of spiritual paths.
Spirituality is generally divided into two paths - Dark and Light. Each of these paths are further divided into two other paths, they are;
Light-light
Light-dark
Dark-light
Dark-dark
Wherever the word 'Light' appears as the first word in these descriptives then the whole spiritual path generally works with 'positive' energy, so it follows where 'Dark' comes first then the path works mostly with 'negative' energy.
Light-light
Light-light types are what are mostly referred to when discussing anything 'good'. The 'love and light' brigade. So-called 'fluffy bunnies'. People whose spirituality is always of a positive nature and either benficial to themselves or others. These kind of people would never even consider working with anything even remotely dark or sinister. Anyone who is moral, enjoys brightness and spreads joy honestly is Light-light.
Light-dark
Light-dark is the sinister companion to Light-light. These are people who show all the outwardly signs of their Light-light counterparts but something a little more 'darker' lurks beneath the surface. These people would dabble in darker forms of spirituality but would never admit to it. They gather around them all the trappings of a light and harmony, or just what the masses percieve to be bright and positive but behind the facade they really have just given up trying to be better individuals. Light-dark people speak of light and harmony but usually show their true Light-dark natures when in temper or anger.
Dark-light
Dark-light people are those who are or have found a place that's as close to balance as a human being could possibly get. They have found a 'middle-ground' between darkness and light. While they may not have the 'lightness' of Light-light people they can use both positive and negative energy in equal measure. A foot in both constructive and destructive spirituality.
Dark-dark
The true opposite of Light-light. This is the category that most people in society would simplistically label as 'evil'. If their spirituality encompasses the use of magickal practice then Dark-dark individuals will work solely for their own benefit and gain or for destructive purposes for others. They can range from people who value material gain and fun over soul development to people who use so-called 'black magick' or indulge in various forms of sacrifice.
It must be pointed out that these are guidlines only. Very few people will fall firmly in just one example. People can, and do vary between any two or three above or below their general type.
It's also important to remember that the word 'dark' must not be confused with the word 'evil'.
Regardless of the general outlines above, ANY person is capable of great acts of good as well as dispicable acts of evil.
Even Dark-dark individuals must not be automatically labelled as evil. It must be kept in mind that all of us are different, and that is the key word - different.
A person of a dark path follows that path because that is the one they most relate to and feel most comfortable following. It doesn't necessarily follow that those individuals are, in any way, evil.

And of course all this varies from culture to culture and generation to generation.
As with all things it is a matter of belief systems and indoctrination.

Hm, interesting guidelines you have. I wouldn't say I fall into either category specifically...I think I'd have to say I'd me more of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th categories. I sometimes won't admit that I live a darker reality, but inside, I know exactly what I'm doing. I don't think there are many...if any, who can keep a balance for very long, but I've been there. I've been called evil several times, by several people for letting it be known that I work with...certain entities. I often use a method to either imprison them, or simply absorb them.

Sounds interesting.
When you say imprison do you mean like trapping them in a bottle as in Voodoo?
The absorption sounds interesting to are you taking their energies into yourself and controlling them?

If I had to pick one of the above I would most likely fall into the Dark-light camp.
I know what you mean SP, I'm often called evil for some of the work I do, usually it's the 'love and light' lot who do the name calling.
I find the Light-dark people most interesting though. Those who show outwardly signs of being light but underneath a different story is going on.
I think a lot of members of the world's major religions fall into this category.
Those religions founders, Jesus, Buddah, etc., were probably of a Light-light nature, but whether or not their followers or organisations are of a similar nature is open to debate.

No, I don't mean trap them in a bottle. I do have a fragment of a much larger stone that I destroyed when I decided I was going to stop doing what I was doing. It was the only piece I didn't grind into dust....something just told me to keep it I guess one could say.
That stone fragment is a very good holding cell, so to speak. I also have what I call a shadow mirror, for the sole purpose of contending with the shadow people as they are called. However, in the recent months it has been mysteriously broken.
I also use a method where I'm in somewhat of a trance-like state and imprison them within myself. It is there that I drain them at my leisure, "Step into my parlor said the spider to the fly." That method, however, is used only when the entity invites itself into my personal bubble. There is another new member here who might be willing to speak up about me actually taking from her, a shadow entity and doing this.
Yes, I can control them, but it takes a great deal of will power to overcome them, if you don't know what you are doing it can prove dangerous.

Ahh, now my interest has been tweaked!!!
I am fascinated by these 'shadow people' or 'grey entities' as they are sometimes called.
I once spent an evening in a pub with a very intelligent gentleman who was convinced that everything we do or say is controlled by the shadow people.
I disagreed with most of what he said but it was a wonderfully interesting conversation nonetheless, and it was obvious he knew what he was talking about.
I find it a bit of a 'cop-out' when people blame their human faults and failings on some form of exterior influence, "It wasn't me guv! It was the voices" - that kind of thing.
But having said that I have met many people who have told stories of these shadow people and all the stories have similar elements.
I've never experienced them personally myself (or maybe I have and just not realised it) but I really do want to know more about them.
Who are they? Where are they from? What is their purpose?

I enjoy talking about my experiences. The shadows are put in the evil category by many. However, during my studies of them, I've found there appear to be several different types of shadows. I'll have to make a thread here with my experiences.
