Chi

An impressive demonstration of the extent that Chi energy can be developed to. Let me know what you think

What can you think.

Either he is working on their minds and the are expecting this to happen, or, sod having a row with him.

I have seen a few displays of Chi before and I do think it is a very real energy.

Bravo has said nothing.

I am getting nervous.
Bravo

Can't type for laughing basically

I was going to wait for a few more replies before posting this but as they haven't been very forthcoming:

Bit of over kill perhaps.
Bravo

I would be interested in a real discussion on kime and chi, rather than this type of fantasist 'video game' martial arts, though it was a bit of a fun distraction, nice find Tel

Indeed. The reason I posted it was to highlight an illusion. Why could the "Kiai Master" control the first group of people? Because they allowed it? Because they believed that he could? They were subject to the illusion and deception of the "Master". In turn he believed his own hype and was thus deluded by his own students.

The MMA guy obviously was not so susceptible to the illusion and literally smashed his way through it. You'll also note that although it appeared slightly brutal the young MMA fighter displayed a great deal of respect and concern for the Master.

For me this is a great analogy for life and the illusions and delusions that we come across on a regular basis.
evergreen

so interesting ....  I've never seen anything like this before

to keep people away... I push my energy out and hold it there.. with intent no one comes into it .. is that what he is doing pushing his energy out.. - but with intent to hit or kick....? sorry I'm trying to understand something I have no knowledge of

I think younger fellow had great mental strength to trust himself and over come the energy of the one before him..  It is so violent but with respect   I am finding it difficult to find the balance in martial arts, yest I get the impression it is all about balance... It is the hurting others that seems so pointless to me

did the master suffer a heart attack too? they appeared to be doing CPR on him in the end

Perhaps you could give us a bit of information on this topic.

That would start the ball rolling.

I would be out of my depth here as I have no personal experience.

So it was all in the mind then.

Is it always, all in the mind do you think Tel?
Bravo

From my personal experience, a great deal of force can be developed ia physical means and that comes through training certain muscles to react in a certain way.  really it is about understanding muscular dynamics and where power is generated from in a physical sense.

If I was to use an analogy, try grabbing your trousers and pulling outwards as hard as you can, then after 30 seconds or so, letting go and relaxing....this is sort of what I mean.
david hobbs

I did the trouser pulling thing, and felt that my solar plex felt hollow.  My shoulders seemed to need to be dropped to apply more pull.  The back muscles seemed to remain solid and strong.  Bum seemed to need to stick out and this lowered my body slightly.

You owe me for a new pair of strides
Bravo

Forget the rest of your body and just focus on your arms, pull outwards with as much strength as you can muster, then after a while relax ;)

We used to do this as schoolkids, never occured to me that folk might never have done this lol

The energy you sort of store as you do this is a physical energy that your body is providing for you as it sees an ongoing need, this is sort of how 'kime' develops and I am of the opinion that 'chi' is an extrapolation of that.
Sceptic Tel

Perhaps it'd be best to start a new topic on chi/ ki/ qi...

Evergreen. I don't think the "Master" had a heart attack :) Just inexperienced of being hit. Personally I believe the young fella just wasn't taken in by the hype thus could just strike where ever he pleased. Among the martial circles I move in I can't think of anyone that would take the master seriously so potentially we could all do the same as the young guy. What puzzles me is how he could manipulate so many other people i.e his students. Perhaps it is the way he trains them, first to be sensitive to energy and then through suggestion of seeing their peers being struck down without being touched they respond the same, like an en mass brain washing.

Like I said it is not completely unlike the world we live in with our international educational brainwashing, science, society, none of it is real, it's all an illusion.

Why the hurting of each other? Good question and one I often ask myself the best answer I have is that pain is a good teacher.

All in the mind? Yes I believe so, although I do believe that energy can be felt and used in a similar fashion to what was displayed, I'd have to experience it for myself to believe it but if you think about spiritual  healing then perhaps you will agree that you can feel energy exchange.

To add further thought here is a Derren Brown clip. I'm always a little dubious about him as he is an illusionist by trade but if what we see is true it will empthasise that it is in the mind as I'm sure Derren doesn't claim to have ability to generate Chi...

Bravo.

Are you talking about the feeling of energy leaving your arms for some time afterwards?

I can tie in what I have seen in this film and the Derren brown thing with events that have taken place during circle work

8 people moving in unison in the dark, all with eyes closed and not able to see anyone else.  Who or what is the choreographer.

I used to direct energy at my sitters when they where meditating and it would make them move.

My brain is melting.

If they expected it to happen then I could understand.

I used to feel that I was being moved by the energy in order to direct the energy.

I don't think I am explaining this very well.

Go away and think David.
Sceptic Tel

My understanding is that chi is simply energy or animation. If you are tense your chi (energy) is weak, relax and your chi will flow. You may also project chi (energy) as Evergreen explained before and as you (I think) are trying to explain above. If people are sensitive to energy then they can respond to it. Just as I can feel your aura with my hands, with my eyes closed and our energies raised then chances are I would then be able to sense your projected energy field with my body as you have experienced during your circle work.

And I would agree the energy moves you rather than you move the energy because in essence isn't that all we are?
david hobbs

It is a wonderful feeling to stop the mind and let the "big mind" run things.

I had a funny experience with an Irish guy that I met.  He was a really nice bloke and he taught marshall arts.  He studied and travelled a lot and had lots of belts.

He was showing me something called sticky hand and every time I tried to push his hands he grabbed mine and pulled hard so that I would fall forward.

After about ten times He grabbed my hand and I relaxed it.  I just thought his hand might slip off.  It did and his fist hit his nose which went of like a pistol shot.

Poor bugger had a busted nose.

At least he didn't get angry and deck me, but he was a bit stand offish after that.
evergreen

good grief David no wonder he was stand offish.. the power of doing nothing they should be saying
david hobbs

I did feel bad about it because his pride was dented and he was a really nice guy.

In another light it does show that you can always hurt yourself far more easily than anyone else can
