CHARITY

i was watching question time last night and i hadn't realised what a revolting woman harriet 'harridan' harmon is......shouting like a demented nazi about some rubbish and then about all the work they were doing'saving'Africa......well i am all in favour of charity.......

but when was it made law that the uk was going to 'save' Africa?

Africa has many natural resources (that is why europe stole a lot of them)
and sub saharan africa has some of the most arable land in the world.
The fact that it also has some woeful dictators is not the uk publics fault.

MY QUESTIONs ARE:
SHOULD CHARITY BEGIN AT HOME?

SHOULD OUR MONEY BE CHANNELED TO OTHERS ?

DO WE THINK THAT IF SOMEONE HERE HAS AN MP3 PLAYER THEN THEY ARE NOT POOR?
Deb's

SHOULD CHARITY BEGIN AT HOME?
Depends on how needy it is.

SHOULD OUR MONEY BE CHANNELED TO OTHERS ?
If we can spare it why not?

DO WE THINK THAT IF SOMEONE HERE HAS AN MP3 PLAYER THEN THEY ARE NOT POOR?
Nope, they could of found it.

love & light,
Deb's. x

I definately think charity needs to begin at home. When we no longer have people sleeping in the streets and old people dying in thier homes in Winter then we will have the right to stick our noses into other people's affairs.
Also, Harridan Harman and her ilk are always reluctant to say that most of the money that the big bad West gives to Africa ends up either buying weapons or a new wing to the dictator's palace.

That's right Raymond.

Two weeks ago the Nigerian army bought fifteen Russian tanks.

Apparently the United Nations are deeply concerned about the situation.

As we speak they are beating the fifteen tanks down into
15,000,000 Spear heads thus threatening to unbalance the local military balance of power.

Worrying indeed

I have an issue with charity.
To me, if we can help someone who needs it, and WANTS it, and we wish to do so, then yes, to not do so seems nonsensical.

SHOULD CHARITY BEGIN AT HOME?
No point in helping others if we can't help ourselves.

SHOULD OUR MONEY BE CHANNELED TO OTHERS ?
See above. Nothing worse than receiving charity when you really don't want or need it, just because we do in someone elses eyes. I do think, however, that we should have more of a say in what happens to money that is deducted from our salaries.

DO WE THINK THAT IF SOMEONE HERE HAS AN MP3 PLAYER THEN THEY ARE NOT POOR?
No. I think that often that those who have less, have more of the trappings of the wealthy so as not to appear that they have less. Perhaps it is a priority thing. I would rather have decent food, a clean home, and no new CD's, MP3 player.
I do also think that when you beyond the point of having food and a home, "poor" is an arbitrary label. You are as poor as you feel. On paper, I am poor. I have a better quality of life than quite a few of my friends, am happy, and live well but within my means.

a year or two back gordon the missionary gave tanzania £30 million......

the next day the president went out and bought himself a jet for £28 million.........

SHOULD CHARITY BEGIN AT HOME?

No Charity should begin at someone elses so when they get done for money laundering it's not your fault or you're ten years in nick for it

SHOULD OUR MONEY BE CHANNELED TO OTHERS ?

Only if you've got a spare few bob to give them, then yes, other wise, be a tight wad and let the government pay for it, they could always take the cash away from the illegal immigration budget, seeing as it don't work anyway. and why should i give others money, if no one gives me any?

DO WE THINK THAT IF SOMEONE HERE HAS AN MP3 PLAYER THEN THEY ARE NOT POOR?

i've got an MP3 player, and the cash flow is low, but i'm not poor, then again i'm not rich either
Raymond

I don't get this thing about an MP3 player. If you have one does it mean that you are rich?
I don't understand.

Billy cannot reply.

He has moved and not on line yet.

I suppose that the question to ask yourself before considering giving to charity is this.

Do I have enough?

Well do you?
Raymond

Under a Labour government?

I barely have enough to keep myself.

From what I have experienced in my own family those with their hand out get more hands out no matter what the need.. and unfortuinately there are always those too kind/blind to see they are feeding an addiction of "handouts"

as far as the situation in Africa is concerned I take my hat off to those special individuals who take the time to travel there and instigate some real change- as far as giving money I dont' think that works very well .... unless there is somewhere clean, positive and secure for that money to take you it really just keeps you where you are.

if it (money) is just going to bring you back to where you are then I'd have to say assit with time and teaching and real caring not a handout that only takes the person to the next handout.

Ps I dont' have one of thses MP3 players....   and someone suggested my kids were disadvantaged because I was limiting their knowledge of technology      hmm right now that person really has been sucked in  haven't they ???    because here I was thinking my kids might be dissadvantaged because they didn't have a male role model  but apparently that is normal and very acceptable   where are our priorities ?????
Raymond

You make a valid point EG. Nowadays people tend to think that the only way to show their kids they love them is by giving them stuff.

Near to my parent's house is a very large family. They have 14 (yes,14) children.
They are very religious people, the father is something of a minister in their faith, and they shun technology as much as possible.
They have no TV, radios, computers, central heating in fact you rarely see a light on in the house so it makes me wonder even if the whole House is hooked up to electricity.
The mother home teaches all the kids and they all play together in the large garden.
Sometimes when you walk past the house you can hear them all singing and it's lovely.
I'm hope I'm around to witness when one of them hits teenage years and starts rebelling - but that's beside the point.
The thing is, this family has gained a bit of a local reputation as being a bit "weird".
I must admit, when you see them all up the high street they do look a little odd but it fascinates me to hear what other people say about them,
"Something should be done to help those poor kids"
"It's not right"
"I feel sorry for the poor little devils"
"Somebody should report them"
These are some of the comments I've heard. Why do people feel this way? Just because these kids are taught to sing instead of how to kill on video game?

I don't understand why some people just plonk their offspring in front of a TV or a computer game. It makes you wonder just who are the 'weirdos' in all of this?

I home educated mine until my eldest was nearly 8 so I know just what you are talking about .. and when people got to know us they would say  dont' you think you are disadvantaging your children no telly, they arent' learning socail skills etc...  we didnt' have telly but we learned German and French for a year adn did environmental studies and some volunteer work ... They went to school when I felt they were ready  my eldest is captain of her school now, and all three are great kids they kind of give me no stress they do chores and get on with each other and now people look at me and say how did you mange that.. I always say we bonded as a family when they wre young by home schooling and the bond has stuck--   so far.

I do know some who home educate and cut their kids off from the world not socialising at all... I'm not sure it is the best thing  for the kids personally I don't think it has does them any harm they converse very well with each other and seem not to go through the stages of stropyness that children often go through- I guess you can only really tell once the children are out on their own I think these kids will do fine Raymond they will probably be more independant than their peers even though people think that is what they are losing
