ChantingChanting and sound are used in most religions.
How important is sound in the pursuit of things spiritual?

I love chanting. It's a very spiritual thing to do and at the same time I get to hear the sound of my own voice - which I luuuurve!!!
Everyone's a winner.

I think chanting is a very human thing, whether it is someone chanting on their own, or football fans, it is all a very human and intrinsically joyful experience.

It makes me think that perhaps sound and chanting may bring about an altered state of consciousness.
Actually thinking about it tribal dance and shamanic drumming do just that.

Now don't get me started on drumming. I've just got into drumming after buying myself a drum and I think I'm addicted. I love it, it's a wonderful thing.
I'm sure my neighbours would disagree.

Too easy
Back to chanting, it can be used to create a vibration to alter brain state, in a similar way to a meditation state. At also can be use dto slow the heartbeat to induce a deep relaxation, or to lift the spirits and create a state of hyperawareness, or ecstacy
