Changing people

When I look at the way some folks lead their lives I often think that they should do things differently.  Murderers thieves thugs etc.

If I had a majik wand (OK I do have a majik wand but forget that for a

moment)  If I had a majik wand would I have the right to change people.
evergreen

well you could change people but I think they'd come back and do it over again so they can go through the experience of changing themselves
Raymond

I don't pity murderers, rapists and the like because like EG says I think to go to those extremes in life there must be a greater force at work here than merely a human being's actions.

I often wonder if I could would I have the right to change the kind of people you see paraded on the Jeremy Kyle show each morning.

The real 'pond-life' of society. The kind of people who are pregnant before 16 and spend their benefits on lager and produce more kids in order to get a bigger council house and basically do nothing but breed more pond-life.

I don't know if I would have the right to change people like that but I know one thing for darn sure, if I had the power I would certainly change their ability to reproduce.

I have to ask what part of you is it that wants to change others?
Raymond

The part that's sick to death of getting up for work each day to pay taxes to keep scroungers in lager, weed, fags and knock off designer clothes.

I don't think it is only those people who need to change but the governments who over the years have allowed this situation to arise.

Bad back sir.  Oh never mind.

Have the rest of your life off.

Here's a certificate.

Depressed madam.

Have some pills.  They won't cure you, in fact they will make you drug dependent.  But anyway, have the rest of your life off, oh and a car to get you about.  Still the pharmaceutical company's will be kept busy.

The list is endless.

DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THIS ONE...... ok i know it's a debate section.... but there are some rantings which even when you've ranted you end up feeling worse for it....and this for me, is one of them!

How and why would you want to change someone? it's who they are! you can't change that, if i changed i wouldn't be me, if i changd you, you wouldn't be you right? so how and why? yeah ok maybe some serious criminals, but if you changed all of them, Hitler would have won WW2

Very very wrong indeed.

If you never changed you would still be crying for food and pooping in nappies, you are constantly changing throughout your life...every new experience adds to the overall you.

I agree totally Mr. Hobbs, the governments have a lot to answer to but there are people who believe that spending their lives on the dole is a career option.
Some folk honestly do believe they have the right to benefits.

The more I think about it the more I think that society has created this situation and societies colonel in chiefs up in Westminster are to blame.

There have always been work shy people , but there was never a society that encouraged them so much.

With loss of work often comes loss of purpose ,and dignity.  Boredom sets in and there is no escape from home, and no work mates to socialise with.

Worse there is nothing to ge up in the morning for.

I just don't understand how this could be allowed to happen.

Being this kind of a caring society is paramount to a caring mother who
feeds her children to obesity.  She believes that she does it from love.

I do not blame the people but the system.

Change the system and the people will change.
Raymond

Well said.

the heads of state are voted in they are just representative of the whole you can't blame them.. they too are learning...  Unfortunately many of them have never been where you or I are so their understanding is rather limited...  but it will change

Personally i believe that the more people create change the greater we all become. The more people take responsibility for themselves the greater the impact on society .. like the ripple effect

Australia has laws the make everyone work or look for work the hands outs have been cut back... when your youngest turns 8 full time work is expected by the government- I've struggled with it myself. No matter what the disability but you know what has occurred the cares the helpers (people that do it for free and because they want to) have dissappeared... there are hardly any of those people that use to run things that made society tick major funds have had to be poured into places that were before self- sufficient....  I say be careful what you wish for be careful what you wish upon others, it really isn't' until you have lived through it that you truly know the purpose of it

I wonder if the basic personalitiy traits and charachter really can change.

I think that you can change the way that you think and act, but can you really change your basic self.

Interestingly I heard a program on the radio the other day about child minders.
Apparently they are bringing in new rules and asking child minders to fill out forms for practically everything that they do on a day to day basis.  Reports etc.
The consensus seemed to be that women will not want to be child minders in the future as the paperwork and legislation would be an overwhelming burden.  So what happens to women and men with small children that want to work?

I think the rules in Australia may be a little strong, but perhaps we in the UK are a little weak.  Balance in all things is always a good idea.
Raymond

We're back once again to this word - balance.
The problem with the current British government is it's way out of balance.
They are very heavy handed in some areas (Motorists) and too weak in others (the list is too numerous to give just one example).
This government needs to change or better still we need to change this government.
evergreen

yes I agree it is about balance

the Government brought laws in here years back now about child minding in the home.. basically it is all government controlled now and you have to meet many safety standards and such and people have turned away from it in the droves- too much governement influence in your own home it would appear..and the people looking after the kids are making scrapes.

We have a major child care shortage here. The law also states that children can't be minided in a  child care center once they turn 11...  my eldest is 11 but it is fair to leave her home alone????  I'm not worried about what she will get up to but I think it leave a child open to being influenced by unsavoury and unsafe people.

I have a major probelme with no one looking after children I think that is why there are so many social delinquencies problems coming through at the moment the young people are often without clear and good directions and influences
meiah

Quite a few infant, junior and secondary schools around our way have "breakfast clubs" and "homework clubs" before and after school. Its working well, children whose parents are rushed in the morning have a decent breakfast and a run around before school starts, and get their homework done befor ethey go home.

It makes a long day for them though. No longer than going to a childminder after school, I guess.

Childminders here are having to do more and more, but then again, there is more and more training available, much of it free, and if they keep their CPD up to date, the paperwork is lessened.
From where I sit, it helps to reduce the numbers of those who just want to be paid for sitting in front of Eastenders. Those who want to do it as a career get support, training and recognition for their dedication.
