Canewdon Church
Canewdon Church in Essex has a reputation of links to witchcraft and majik.
We (the GHE team) went thier one dark winters night and although expecting nothing to happen we had a bit of a shock.
Having been there for some time,it was now about ten Oclock in the evening, and pitch black save for the lamposts a few hundred yards away.
We had bought sandwiches and coffee and having found a bench in the North West corner of the grave yard we sat down for a meal break. After we had fininshed I suggested that we close our eyes and have a short meditation.
Almost instantly the wind picked up and I could feel what I thought was grit blowing into my face. I opened my eyes and immediatley the sensation stopped. I closed them again and there was that same feeling of sand or grit being blown into my face. Again I opened my eyes and was dumfounded to see no more that ten feet in front of me a four foot high solid black shape. Tony who was sitting next to me must have opened his eyes at the same time and let out a gasp.
"What did you see I asked him. Not wanting to put ideas into his head I did not mention what I had seen. A black shape he responded and It shot off into the far north western corner of the graveyard. That was good enough for me. We had indeed seen the same thing.
Above you will see the bench in the churchyard and the view from the bench. Left click on them to enlarge.
Is Canewdon Church haunted? Yes it is.

Anne and I went to Canewdon Church yesterday and took some photo's
I have it in my head that perhaps some of the sacred sites in our area may be laid out according to certain star constelation patterns.
Well it is something to do and rather interesting. So far we have found reference to the Pleides and Ursa Major. These old churches occupy sites that predate Christianity by thousands of years so it may give insights into our ancestors religious beliefs.
If anyone has any information I would be pleased to recieve it.

You may be right Mr Hobbs but the stars are natural cycls that occur and these can be used to measure time. Tha ancients never had a decent old timepiece except the stars and moon.
Just like the mariners.
Would it be such a mystery if they alligned sites to stars?
If we were able to take out light pollution what appears in the heavens is an awesome sight. I know i'd use that great map in the sky for inspiration.

Hello Sam. Mention Canewdon and up he pops. Good to hear from you.
Yes it makes an awful lot of sense really. They had nothing to go on except the heavens. Do you have any more information.
I suppose that what is a mystery to me may be commonplace thousands of years ago.

i like to visit this church ,and i do occasionally see activity there ,there seems to be so much hype with these places ,that one almost expects to see something there as soon as one arrives, and this of course doesnt happen ,but saying that ,i would reccomend a visit here ,as i have seen many different energys ,quite clearly ,and at all different times of the day, night.highly reccomend this place ,comparing it to the other local graveyards i have beeen to ,also the surrounding area seems active in places,ie the local pub is and the shops nearby
