Candle makingI've started a new hobby, candle making. I bought a load of moulds, wax, wicks and dyes, etc,. and I'm rather pleased with how they have turned out.

Excellent. Do you mix oils and incences with them.
candles are bloody expensive and most are those cheap crappy dipped candles with a thin coating of the required colour, which I refuse to use.

I use oils in them if I am making one for a specific spellworking.
The 'human' figure candles above cost me about £2 each to make, when I was in Glastonbury at the weekend I saw the exact same candles going for £5.99 each.
At least I know what's gone into mine and I make them with herbs/oils and know what moon phase I'm making them in.

It's good fun yes, but incredibly messy. I end up with more wax on me and every avaliable surface than I do in the candle.

Those look brilliant!!! Unbelievable. You must have a lot of patience.

Oh you must be joking! Patience? Me?
It's quite simple really if you have good molds.

hahaha I laughed at the patience comment too.. sorry Raymond but you don't strike me as patient..
you get it everywhere do you... I liked to work with a set of old pans and place the whole lot in a cardboard box so I could just throw it out.. nothing worse than wax everywhere... I found that making the candles was more expensive than buying them in the end.. but certainly not as much fun.
Its given me the itch to get back into it.. even the light bulb painting the kids would love it...

If you're talking about bog-standard taper candles or pillar candles then yes, it is cheaper and quicker to just buy them.
I wanted the shaped candles for spellwork and so on and they can be incredibly expensive.
I saw the human-shaped ones going for nearly £8 each the other day. It costs me about £3 each to make, and I know what goes into them as I add oils, herbs and they're the same colour all the way through.
