What did he mean by that Bravo.

I think he meant a lot of things...
In martial arts it is best to expand when blocking and contract when striking (sounds wrong but it is right, hard to explain in the written word)...so maybe he meant that when your 'opponent' is blocking you should be striking and when he is striking you should be blocking.
Who or what is the opponent though, and what is a strike, and what is a block?

Funny, when I read that I thought he was saying that you and your opponent are two parts of a whole.

What is the opponent that you are a part of?

Externally you view your opponent (that which you are fighting) as being something other than yourself, but if there is no internal and external, you are fighting a part of yourself.
Hence as one part of you expands, another part contracts.

With healing the healer often "expands" his or her space in order to become at one with the patient.
Perhaps his expansion tuned him in to his opponent while his contraction took him out of his opponents field of connectivity.
I love this martial arts stuff.
It stretches the mind. I would guess possibly more the the body.

I see it more that the healer expands his or her awareness

Yes and no (Bl**dy semantics again). To expand your awareness is to be aware of more of what you do not perceive to be yourself. and so where does a person start / finish?

A sensitve healer knows where to start and where to stop.
If they do not then they should find another hobby

As far as they can see, and then beyond that.

Take a step up the ladder. This will happen to you many times through life, a moment of realization, an 'ahhh' moment. The belts in martial arts (at least some of them) reflect the physical 'ahhh' moments, but they do also reflect the mental...sometimes you have these and don't receive a belt, sometimes you receive a belt without them, they can happen anytime.
Great aren't they?

Dominating and being dominated is a natural thing, and both are actions.
Does Bruce Lee speak of Stillness.
