Anne finds a Poppet Doll

I visited Anne's farm last night on my way to a mini investigation on another nearby farm

Anne has lived on this farm for around two years and she found this doll hidden away with a persons name who was known to her written on paper attached to the doll.

What do you make of it.

It all happens on GHE!!!!!

mark

well someone took desperate  measures ,and wanted to  keep this  on the farm,so what was happening to the person was ongoing  i presume, without knowing why  they felt the need to do this i think its a bit sad  in a way  ,desperate is what i get , of course i think that to stick pins in  a doll may also relieve someones frustration which is good
Raymond

Hmmm, it's interesting how one of them has been placed in the 3rd eye.

I'd like to know what it is stuffed with. I'd love to psycommetrise it.
meiah

This doesn't feel bad to me, almost like a clearing. Dunno whether that is clearng the doll from the property, or whther the doll was for clearing though.

Can they be used for healing or clearing?

made me wonder too, about the third eye. I don't feel anything 'bad ' about this.

while on the subject...I have an old brass cup, looks like a chalice. If I post a piccy on here, could you give me some info on it?
sorry to jump on Ann's bandwagon, but this cup has intrigued me for years .
mark

at the risk  of stating the obvious ,could the pin be in the back of the head, either way not nice

Put it on Lilly.

don't take my words for it cause I don't know anything about these dolls or rituals other than what I have read here

but I do get the feeling of wanting others to stop tapping in on me ???

Tapping ?

Me no speak Aussie
beantighe

Well I get the feeling that someone really meant business, as the pins are all located on vital organs.  This was definitely intended to stop someone, even by causing them physical harm.
evergreen

tapping... i mean stop them doing any work on me
anne

evergreen and beantighe. You are both soo right. Protection from this man and maybe and I do say maybe, harm to him !!!!!! ????
evergreen

anne go with your gut your a very intuitive just trust those feelings...  :)
beantighe

Take reassurance that you weren't the instigator of this spell, Anne.  If this character is as bad as we've been told, and all mundane avenues have been tried to no avail, then it sounds as if he's got it coming.  What will be, will be.

I've been trying to clean the bloomin' thing.It was once highly polished,still-- here it is;
Description; A rough cast solid brass ''chalice'' with three horseshoes, and three spiders in relief. on the foot are three heads which I have seen somewhere in ancient history books, but can't place them.

david hobbs

I don't know if I like it or hate it.  It seems very male to me and the heads look like Monks.  It just has to be ceremonial,

How did you come by it Lilly?
david hobbs

Something I found

In Portugal, near Lisbon, there is a convent of nuns called Chelas.

One time a chaplain was singing the mass there and as he was consecrating the elements, a large black spider fell into the chalice.

The chaplain hesitated for a moment, but trusting in the Virgin, he drank the wine, spider and all.

As soon as he had said the mass, the chaplain told the nuns and the prioress about the spider. The prioress was alarmed and ordered him to be bled, thinking he may have been poisoned.

An incision was made in his arm and the spider emerged from it alive.

The nuns marvelled at the miracle and showed the spider to many people.
beantighe

consecrating the elements???  Sounds like a dodgy priest to me!!  And the threes - this cup's got a very pagan feel to it.  And I'm sure the spiders aren't there just for decoration - they must mean something.................have a feeling there's something very symbolic here.
beantighe

On a more prosaic note, perhaps the chalice was made to commemorate the story of the chaplain and the spider.  It would explain the spiders on the cup, and perhaps the three heads are meant to represent the chaplain himself.  The fact that there are three heads may be a red herring, after all, the cup couldn't stand up on just one head, could it?
Lilly

Oh! boy... I've been jinxed! as soon as I posted this my p.c. crashed, and I mean crashed.Never been sick as this EVER!   Had to have it taken to hospital, came back today at 3pm I'm still tring to get it back to my standard. I had to have a new hard drive;so I lost all my data except my emails. spent the last hour reinstalling spyware-anti-virus,and changing to I.E.8
But- as you can see,I have my priorities right and got back on GHE.
Can't stop long...

To answer the q's first.I bought this ,or my ex did, in an antique shop in Ryde IOW. I never liked it,tho I'm not averse to spiders! Don't fancy eating them, yuk! What about the horseshoes? any clues?
beantighe

Now that one's a puzzler.............except I don't think they're horseshoes, because they meet at the top - they're more tear-drop shaped.  Need some additional input for that one!
anne

Im with Beantighe, I reckon its to commemorate the Chaplain, and the spider story. I also think they are teardrops rather than horse shoes. Which would make much more sense. The spiders, the monks/chaplains head and tears of joy. Have you thought of taking the Chalice to a museum to see if it authentic or if its just a tourist trophy, hence the story?????
anne

By the way I think it is the most beautiful thing Ive seen for many a long time. Meant to put that at the end of my last post.
beantighe

In the story, didn't the nuns bleed the chaplain to get rid of the poison they thought he had absorbed from the spider?  In that case, the 'teardrops' could be drops of blood.  It's looking more and more as if the chalice was made to commemorate that story.  There must be someone who can corroborate this.
david hobbs

Oh OK then I shall corroborate it.

But it will be complete B******s

Any one else done any research on this?
evergreen

they look like a wreath or an amulet ..   not tears to me or blood because my thoughts would be that they (tears/drops) are more solid and these really look like they have nothing in the middle....   a charm perhaps?

I really like it too ....   I agree it is very male and isn't that great!!!!!  :)

I've never heard that story
Lilly

The main reason I wanted to show this 'chalice'was to see if anyone could pick up any nasty things surrounding it. does anyone feel it is sinister?

[just testing to see if I can still post pics, lol]
Lilly

Chela;       pronounced KEE- WA --pincerlike claw of a crustacean or arachnid, such as a lobster, crab, or scorpion.

So, the nuns must have worshipped spiders etc. long before the priest swallowed the spider?
Reminds me of the old comedy song; '' There Was An Old Woman Who Swallowed A Fly.''

Isn't it strange how some people love a thing and others hate it?
I have always felt a sense of evil with this thing, and a few friends I have shown it to have recoiled in dread!
you can have it if you like Anne ..

Yes I agree now,I didn't look properly, they are not horseshoes, and there is a diamond shape at the top . As for the Spiders, they are spiders, and they have 8 legs! What did you pick up on it Mark,if anything?
mark

i just wondered if a small scorpion could have similar  charecteristics ,anyway  let me see
i see something to do with"mercury"something mysterious

something to do with protection and its given as a gift to be used  for  help that person needed
i also see it has been on a big boat ,an old fashioned wooden one
it resembles  a time in which the owner needed to move on
i get a smell of mint and also lavender which i feel has been used in this

thats all i get

Thank you Mark, you've got more than anyone else!
First,it used to stand on top of the cabinet that my C.d. player was on,and most of the music played was either 'the King' or Freddie Mercury.
Incidently,I have been reading an article on Louis 1XV ,THE SUN KING,only about an hour ago.  The piece I was reading was about the Mercury Salon, his bedroom! [always been fascinated by Mercury!]
I myself used to put sprigs of lavender in the 'chalice'
I never felt comfortable with it,now, after reading your post...I might clean it up and put it on display again.  If it was a scorpion,it has no tail,my Mum and  Caraline were scorpios .

All I could see on the photo you posted petal was the cats paw reaching round the screen lol

Mon Dieu!  look up   further on page 1 ; this is a long thread.
scroll down past the original subject of Anne's poppet .

Once you get past the age of 45 you need stronger reading glasses    Big Grin
Hunter

Looks to me as if the chalice is pre christian.
Either it's a copy or it's VERY old.
I think it's driuidic !

Hi Lilly, of course I would be lying if I said "Oh thanks but I couldnt". I most certainly would love to own such an object and if you really dont want it I would look after it with love and care. BUT only if you really dont want it and it would end up unloved and rejected. Ah !!!!!    Anne

Now that I have been given the  info that everyone likes it,more or less, lol ;I feel a bit more at ease with it.I have decided to clean it up and put it back where it was displayed before[in the lounge window].
I think my resentment of it was due to the fact that it was part of the decor when I was married[to the most dreadful man] and I threw out everything connected to the marriage. Curiosity made me keep this chalice, its been tucked away in a cupboard for seven years ! i may even get it checked out by an antique dealer!  Thank you for all the feedback.
Raymond

Just read through all the posts here.

Anne - I definately feel the poppet is there as a charm. I believe if this character approached the property with ill-intent in mind he would suffer quite badly. My advice is to leave it where you found it. The person who made it obviously felt he was that much of a threat that they needed to take these measures. If you feel he's no longer a threat then by all means destroy the thing but if he's still up to his tricks then I'd leave it where it is.

Lilly - love the chalice. I have no idea what it is or where it came from but I'd love to work with it.
