When we dream.

To me dreams and meditations could be classed as the same thing.

Both of these states seem to be talking to us on a different level from the mundane everyday experience.

I do think that in our dreams and meditations lie truths that are beyond our normal waking experience or potential understanding.

Do we make enough of our dreams or do we discard them as just, mind disposing of it's workaday detritus.

My personal opinion is 9 times out of 10 dreams are just, as you say workaday detritus.

The brain never sleeps so when the rest of us does it uses that time to sort everything and 'unload', as twere.

Every now and then however, our dreams do contain a message and that's when we need to listen.
A dream diary is one of the most useful things I own.

I agree I take note of my dreams and have taught my kids to do the same they each have their own diary journal- it is wonderful seeing young people figure out what their subconscious is showing them .

I suppose I do dream, I just forget before I wake up.
Does it matter?
Why do some people remember their dreams, and others not?

Dreams relay the operating senses?
For instance if you hear an owl outside whilst sleeping you won't necessarily dream of an owl but it will trigger something?
So imagine the senses hearing and smelling being relayed into dreams? coupled with your state of emotion when you go to bed?

I do find keeping a dream diary helps me remeber them on waking, usually I forget and say "I had a weird dream" but damned if I can remember it.

I dreamed I could smell sweet smelling bonfire smoke the other night.  It was so strong that I woke up with a jolt thinking the house might be on fire.  There was nothing.

Other times I've been awake and thought I could smell things that shouldn't be there - such as cigarette smoke in a home where no one smokes and the windows are closed or Lavender perfume when no one's wearing anything like it.

Other people I know have had similar experiences.  I wonder if it's our senses playing tricks on us but part of me hopes it's something more than that.

So getting back to my original theme I would say that if you meditated and "controled" the dream, then you would have some pretty amazing experiences and insights.

I suspect that you already do but perhaps keep them to yourself.

Thing is with dreams, they're rather difficult to control.  I've had the occasional lucid dream but even though I'm aware I'm dreaming I don't think I've been able to control what goes on.

Meditiation is easier to control.

How do you go about controlling a dream?

I seem to inadvertently have regular lucid dreams....   I am usually the third person in the dream I have always dreamed like this from a very young child it was not until last year that someone told me it was lucid dreaming   I often go back to the same dream and effect the outcome...    I can't explain how to do it as I just do it... it is like I just know how  however I would suggest if you want to learn about your dreams you begin with recording them and going from there

i have lucid dreams alot of the time... it is usually when i am trying to work out the answer to something...
when i have a vivid dream that i can't control it is either a premonition or a warning.
i can't explain to anyone how to do it.. it is just so!

hey evergreen I used to be able to do that. for example, you goto sleep at night start dreaming but start the theme however you want it to start, ie write a story then find yourself asleep early in. You wake in the morning an before you do you stop the dream where you want to.. You go do some usual stuff round the house, you start feeling tired again jump back into bed an start from the dream where you left it to finish it however you like. Altho now I can't even remember my dreams, only nightmares usually :) I used to smoke weed religously and this is what finished my memory cells off.

The weird nightmare I had of recent... I was dreaming of being with my friends an girlfriend at the time, then one of my close friends I live with, who is really quiet in real life. Started murdering all my other friends and my girlfriend. When I found out it was him towards the end of the dream, I couldn't believe it, I couldn't kill him with any form of instrument but just my bare hands so I had to strangle him to death??? LOL strange eh

I notice whenever I have a large amount of cheese, this alters many dreams into nightmares... People say its myth but I'm not so sure.

I'm not surprised 7thgen my kids do ti too I think it is fairly common though I could be wrong...

Meiah asked why should it matter if you remember your dreams I think if you are wanting to work on you and understand you then dreams are a fantastic tool to help you

I'll work on that dream of yours late 7th off to sleep now
