I think its absurd to suggest we could be alone with 70 sextrillion stars in the observable universe, most of which have planets. A conservative estimate of the drake equation estimates 10,000 civilizations advanced enough to comunicate radio signals in our own galaxy which has 100 billion stars. Because of the size of the galaxy it would take 100,000 years at the speed of light for our radio to reach someone on the other side of the milky way. But only 4.4 years to reach the nearest star ...and if there are any civilizations in our local group of stars within the range of about 100 years they will know we are here ...they will be watching Charlie Chaplin and picking up our radio signals from the early 1900's. So someone might already know we are here.
If someone hadn't found earth by now, i'd be very shocked, in the words of David Tennant from Dr Who, "Earth has made it's self a beacon, more will come"
