'Rei' is about total respect, but more than that. It is about respect from the heart, rather than feigned respect. It is more than that too, but it will suffice as an explanation for the purposes of this forum. _________________
And without wishing to set off anyone, it is also the begiining of Rei-Ki. Yes, respect, but so much more. We do not have a word for it (that I know of)
When people hear of someone having achieved black belt, one of the things they say is 'best not upset you then', the truth of it is they are probably much much safer in the presence of a black belt than they would be in someone elses presence.
The japanese kanji system of writing is basically pictures of what it represents. For example, the kanji for 'tree' is a picture of a tree, let me see if I can find an example:
See the trunk and branches?
So the japanese system for 'martial' is actually 'stop spear' in other words their word for 'war' is 'peace'.
I know it's complicated, but once you think about it, it makes some sense _________________
