I find I have to embrace the shadow to find the self... the shadow to me is the parts of me I don't like so much - but I do need to understand as they are afteral part of me _________________ as a babe drinks from its mothers breast so too does man milk mother earth
But my idea of 'shadow' seems to be different from eveybody else's.
Do tell.
And you may have woked it out according to your own understanding and experiences but words can have many dfferent meanings. _________________ Please visit our main site
To me, a person's 'shadow' is the darker side of their nature. It's where they keep their envy, hatred and jealousy.
Too many people try to supress their shadow-self and it finds it's own way out by itself.
This is why a lot of people think they are whiter than white and lead blameless lives, these are probably the same people that others have secret dislikes of, because when you supress your shadow self it comes out without you realise it.
Embrace your shadow. Own your envy, hatred and jealousy and stop pretending you don't experience those things and then the won't have control over you.

I can honestly say hand on heart that I have never hated anyone.
Also I do not envy anyone.
I am not jealous of anyone but was when I was younger .
I also feel that judgement of others is the shadows foremost weapon.
It all depends on whether or not you view the shadow-self and everything it entails as a bad thing.
Personally I see it as a good thing and work with it.
Because I accept and recognise my envy, hates, dislikes and judgements I can work with it and not allow those things to cloud my decisions.
I gather that, it has many meanings - especially in the occult world.
I'm just speaking from my point of view, from what it means to me.
That's why so many people in the christian faith are so effed-up because they believe that attaining sprituality is to 'ignore' all those normal human emotions that go with the shadow-self.
Not only christians either, many neo-pagans and new agers are of the same 'love n light' mentality and it comes as something of a shock to them when these feelings start to fight their way out and manifest.
I hadn't thought about the 'shadow' part of me before.. but i have just been thinking about it after reading this and I have to say that if I had one, I would have to say its the part of me I don't show to others, the private me. Does hat make sense or am I way off in what you were asking David?
How about just "embrace the self"....surely in doing so you let go of everything that you do not perceive as being part of the self?
The envy, hate etc become part of the self, not something else, outside.
Anything that is part of the self, you can work with.

The self is everything, but viewed from a point called "meiah" or "david".
Any seperation is purely illusion, but gives a place to look from.
The difference is in perception only.
