A very interesting fact...its worth reading.
This experiment was carried out by the very top scientists and shows the very essence of reality. This is the most famous experiment carried out by the lovely people at CERN particle accelerator, Switzerland. It not only touches on the fundamental nature of the reality we live in but it proves that humans are a million miles away from understanding it.
I find this quite scary...
This is a very simplified version of the experiment...
* A photon is a single packet of light. Trillions of photons make up a light beam. The same as lots of molecules make up a solid object.
The experiment: To shoot a 'single' photon of light through a lead plate with 2 small holes cut in it. (A photon cannot be split)
The object of the experiment: To see which hole the photon chooses to go through and why and to watch how it reacts when faced with a choice.
The result: The photon shot towards the lead plate and and changed from a single packet of light into a wave and passed through both holes at the same time. When it got out the other side it reformed into a photon.
The scary bit:
The light photon reacted differently when it was being 'watched' by cameras.
It 'knew' it was being watched! Just by looking at it we changed its very character.
Is this evidence of a fundamental intelligence controlling the universe? Maybe not....
But it did know it was being watched. How can a photon know its being watched?
When the hydron collider, the most expensive and most powerfull machine ever built by humans ,is turned on at CERN shortly, we will get another glimpse ...a deeper look at the nature of our dimension. Its worth noting that a lot of people including physicists are very scared about what may happen and dont want this machine to be turned on at all. It is capable of making mini black holes which will last for a fraction of a second. If you know anything about black holes you will understand why people are holding their breath and crossing their fingers.....Visit the CERN site and keep up to date with their progress if your interested in this stuff... When they switch this machine on there is a possibilty that everything will simply go black and we will cease to exist.
Maybe thats a bit over the top and Im sure it will be ok...but its somethingpeople should be aware of...and If it gets people watching CERN pogress over the next few months and getting interested in this subject then it might be worth it. These people are probing the very essence of this dimension..our very reality. I hope this little post gets some people interetested in this subject and more importantly, opens peoples eyes to our beautiful and fragile existence.
