Given the massive rise of the English Defence League (which was formed in response to the Luton demonstrations), I thought a debate on this issue would be of interest.
The EDL say they are a non racist organisation, that is against radical islamics only. Muslims, blacks, asians, chinese etc are all welcome within it's ranks. From what I've read, it is only the implementation of sharia law that they wish to avert.
I too will look at it later. I'm not celbrating a milestone of anything this evening but Strictly Come Dancing is on in a minute and I want to read about this EDL properly before I comment.
What can I say? With the wind in my hair and a song in my heart, I'm a whore to the Cha Cha Cha!
Trouble is religious people are trapped in their belief that they and only they know the truth.
A bit like pagans really.
This has been going on for hundreds of years but with the advent of Easy Jet we now have it on our own shores. _________________ Please visit our main site
It is also easy to focus on one small aspect of an entire culture or just a few people and make hasty judgements.
We have been conditioned to think that beard plus turban equals bad.
Let them dream of world domination it is just a dream.
Yes it is wrong to just ignore this kind of thing but it is also wrong to see ten football fans fighting and forgetting that the other 20,000 fans are just enjoying the game. _________________ Please visit our main site
It had to happen really. This government's spectacular in-action in dealing with Islamic fundamentalists will undoubtedly lead to groups like this springing up more and more.
Ever since 9/11 and 7/7 this government has bent over backwards to ram home the message that's it's only a very small percentage of British Muslims who support the implementation of sharia law in Britain, I happen to think that's in reality it's only a very small percentage of British Muslims who are against it and while we're on the subject I also think the vast majority of British Muslims supported the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks.
I have confidence that sharia law will never be implemented in Britain. Just look at all the difficulties the government and the EU have had trying to get us to adopt the "european" way of thinking, and they have failed so miserably that they have all but given up completely.
It's because of that I won't rush out and join organisations like the EDL anymore than I would support organisations such as the BNP, however, if there ever was a time when it looked like sharia law might be implemented in this country I would happily take up arms and do my bit to fight it.
I would honestly rather be dead than live in a Britain governed by sharia law.
It's bad enough having to live under christian law but any form of islamic law would be a step too far.
The people who already live under it do so by choice. I do not live under sharia law and I never will.
You think the women who are abused and denigrated choose to do so? They are bullied and harangued until they resign themselves to their fate and give in and go along with it.
A recent channel four documentary which infiltrated the higher echelons of the muslim faith and filmed them talking of a 'nation within a nation' as being the first step to the full implementation of sharia law in the UK and the islamic flag flying over Downing Street.
People are genuinely scared, and it's not an issue of racism, people of all colours and all faiths (or not) are frightened of what is happening. _________________

You want me to have pity for them???
I'm afraid that's part and parcel of being a Muslim. Muslim women are treated like shit - only slightly better than animals.
It's their choice to stay Muslim, so yes, they choose to be abused.
In a country like Britain nobody has to be part of any religion. People only stay with religions by choice.
If these women choose to remain Muslim then they choose to be treated badly - that's the deal.
There 1.5 million Muslims in Britain. There are 60.5 million people in Britain. You do the maths.
I really don't think sharia law will be implemented any time soon Bravo.

It is a part of Sharia that if they leave the religion they are candidates for vicious beatings and even death (this does happen, and it does happen in the UK).
I think you'd call that a bit of a Hobson's choice _________________
In 2001, there were 2,331,423 registered muslims living in England alone. These figures do not of course include anybody living here illegally which is anyones guess. _________________
Ok, for the sake of argument let's go with your 2,331,423. I still think your guess of 4.5 million is wide of the mark.
But that's all beside the point anyway. Even if it were as many as 10 million that's still only 10% of the population of the country.
People are actively trying to stop sharia law because to most people it isn't a problem.
There are still whole swathes of the country where there are no muslim people. You don't even have to go very far out of London.
I was in Guildford today and didn't see one asian person all day. To people who live in these areas it's just not a problem.
And I have to say, even to someone like me who lives in an area where it's almost 90% muslim - it's not a problem.
Like I said, they would have to kill me first before I accepted sharia law or became a muslim.
I would rather die first than accept any part of that dreadful religion.

That indeed is the choice they offer. _________________
Indeed, these 'laws' are an affront to humanity imo, what the bloody harm are a couple of gays doing to anyone? Makes me want to spew _________________
